Are the Winter Charge Rewards 2018 Worth It?

The Winter Charge Rewards promotion might have had to deal with some early struggles, but it’s still a major incentive for players to charge ZEN. You can grab unique mount skins and some other premium items. In this article I’d like to go over all the reward tiers, look at their value, and dish out general advise who should be buying into it.

Rewards and Savings

First of all, this promotion is for those that are willing to charge [sc name=”zenicon”] with real money and are looking to get a little extra out of their investment. Other than other promos like some of the Founder’s Packs, you won’t get all or most of your value back with the items you receive. But that’s understandable, because you obviously still keep the purchased currency. So the Winter Charge Rewards promo is simply a little extra incentive to throw your money onto the game!

Here are all the rewards and their corresponding ZEN values:

  • Tier 1 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]1000):
  • Tier 2 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500):
    • VIP Voucher: [sc name=”zenicon”]1,000
  • Tier 3 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000):
    • Suratuk’s Teal Crag Cat: [sc name=”zenicon”]100
  • Tier 4 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]7,500):
    • Companion Voucher: [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500
  • Tier 5 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]10,000):
  • Tier 6 (when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]20,000):
    • Ultimate Enchanting Stone: [sc name=”zenicon”]200
    • 5x Coalescent Ward: [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000
    • 2x Greater Stone of Health: [sc name=”zenicon”]50
    • Silverleaf Sled: [sc name=”zenicon”]500

Overall this accumulates to the following savings:

  • 625 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]1,000 (+62.50%)
  • 1,620 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]2,500 (+65.00%)
  • 1,725 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000 (+34.50%)
  • 4,225 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]7,500 (+56.33%)
  • 7,075 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]10,000 (+70.75%)
  • 12,825 additional [sc name=”zenicon”] when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]20,000 (+64.13%)

What Tier Should You Buy?

[sc name=”discord”]

Like I mentioned you’re not getting all the value back. But on all levels the rewards add up to roughly 50%+ bonus ZEN, which is a nice addition. The one exception is when charging [sc name=”zenicon”]5,000, because the Crag Cat as blue mount doesn’t sell for too much on the Auction House. The value of the tier 4 and 5 rewards also highly depend on whether you can actually use the items. Most seasoned players probably don’t really need an Experience Booster or any companion from the ZEN Market. Your best option is probably buying the Chultan Tiger or a campaign pet like Stronghold’s ClericChultan Hunter, or Vistani Wanderer.

I guess there might be players that are solely looking for the novelties. In that case you should just hit the Auction House and claim the two mounts there. On PC both go for [sc name=”astralicon”]250,000 at the time of this writing. The promotion runs for two months, so the mounts should stay affordable. For those that are looking for the best benefit-cost ratio, I personally would suggest one of the first two tiers. The keys and VIP are of universal use and won’t likely diminish in the future. Otherwise you may have to climb all the way up to 20,000 because the next best reward is the Coalescent Wards.

Conclusion

In case you plan to charge ZEN with real money anyway, the Winter Charge Rewards promo presents a great way of getting more bang for your buck. I wouldn’t however just take part just for the rewards. You’ll not get equal value back and the two novelties are relatively cheap on the Auction House.

I never buy Zen except during 25% Charge Promo and the extras a nice addition. In the UK, the tiers are different and it’s about 24k Zen for £180, but with the normal 15% bonus for that tier +25% for the promo, I’d get 33.6k Zen for £180, plus free stuff I can sell on AH. The 100% off a companion coupon buys a BtA companion, so if you want/need a spare Chultan Tiger…

Last time was Jubilee V and I am spending Zen in this 40% sale. I’ve not bought more Zen this charge promo, but if I did, it would be now or during the next one. I think once or twice a year is a reasonable subscription fee for the game.

Zen sale + zen store discount means lots of cheap Coal wards. Makes them cost about 320 Zen vs. 1000 if my top of the brain math is right.
