The Art of ALTing: VIP Farms

This article is part of our “Alternate Characters Guide” that explains the current functions of alts and the best ways to utilize them. If it feels a bit disjointed, click through to our guide hub, get an introduction, and links to even more related topics.

VIP is a must-have

Following this site you are probably aware that I’m very fond of the VIP package. It’s a must have for everyone that is able to claim the daily key. Our tool lists the value of some lockboxes north of 60,000 AD. Of course that’s an average value including legendary and epic drops over a large sample size. But even without lucking out you should be able to make 30,000 – 40,000 ADs per key. That’s 900,000 – 1,200,000 AD per months while the VIP package itself costs only 500,000 at a 1:500 ZAX exchange rate. You can further increase the profit margin by invoking and buying the subscription with a 15% voucher from the Celestial Bags, or with other sales.

Please note though that the VIP account needs unrestricted access to the Auction House. To fight bots characters must first work through a few leveling zones to be able to sell goods on the AH. So there’s a bit of leveling involved before your VIP account is all set up.

Multi-accounting is a risk

Knowing these numbers it actually is not far-fetched to create farm accounts, activate the VIP package with a one-time 10$ purchase and profit. After 15-20 days you should be able to resubscribe and transfer the rest of the drops to your main. Over time you should even be able to buy the more profitable three and six month packages, or wait for one of the major 40% sales during Jubilee or Christmas and sub for a full year.

The only issue is that multi-accounting is not entirely approved by PWE. While the official terms of use do not include an account limit, responses by the community team in the past have indicated that you should not play on more than two accounts. There are indeed rare instances of bans because of multi-accounting. So creating farm accounts comes with risk or at least uncertainty, so it’s up to you whether you want go down that road. But it’s profitable to the extent of 700,000 AD per months, or 10 to 20 lockbox drops. It’s a 10$ investment, but in my eyes worth it because you essentially create substantial AD with minimal effort.

With the current nerfs in drops from lockboxes, is VIP alt farming still profitable?

Absolutely. Even you don’t think the latest additions are worth it, you can still open older ones. Even if you use one.month subs and buy without any discount a key has to generate roughly 20k AD per day to be profitable. That’s very likely, most lockboxes easily net 40k on average.
