Bag of Tricks Vol. 83: Progression vs. Weekly Quests in Chult

Bog of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

In the current “Lost City of Omu” and also the Module 12 campaign, there’s an interesting aspect that we’d like to deliver a “PSA” on. As you surely know, more weeklies get unlocked the further you progress through the middle “advancement” path. And the last weekly in both campaigns is a solo lair. It’s called “House of the Crocodile” in Soshenstar River and “Fane of the Night Serpent” in Omu. Once you complete the corresponding campaign task, your first run through the instances will be to complete a story quest. After that, the weekly gets unlocked and you can run the instance again for campaign currency gain.

In case you’re wondering why we recap how the campaign works, the difference between the story and weekly quest is what we’d like to highlight here. Both quests are named similarly and require the same objective to complete (run the instance), but only the weekly one gives the 25 Forgotten Totems or Lost Idols. So you could run into some issues if you party up hoping for a weekly completion, but the leader actually has the story quest. Obviously most assume that they’re running the weekly, but right away there’s no way to tell. So make sure to ask your party leader to not unintentionally “carry” someone through their story quest.

This is especially important at the start of modules when some players are already running weekly completions while other are still doing the story. It can be frustrating when you join an instance only to realize that the run didn’t complete the weekly quest. By the time you realize (one indicator are story cutscenes that you can’t skip), it’s already to late!
