Bag of Tricks Vol. 89: Farming the Weekly Storming the Castle Completion

Bog of Tricks Logo

Welcome to the latest installment of our Bag of Tricks! On some days you will find useful tricks, gimmicks and ideas here that can make life in Neverwinter Online easier. Some of the stuff should be well known, but since even veterans learn something new every now and then, chance is you can, too.

*** UPDATE *** This unfortunately is no longer possible. Storming the Castle now only completes for a full 20v20 match.

We’re sure this trick is nothing new for most players, but wanted to give it an own article anyway. “Storming the Castle” is a Stronghold weekly quest that grants the usual 4,500 RAD, a Blood Ruby and Chult campaign currency. Even though the rewards are tempting, completing the Stronghold Siege PVP can be annoying and takes substantially longer than other weeklies. So it’s probably good news to most that you don’t really have to compete in a PVP match to get your reward. In fact, you can even go full pacifist mode!

The “Storming the Castle” weekly only requires you to participate in the Siege event, and it can be completed within the private PVP queues. The private queue allows you to enter the Stronghold Siege with any team size, and freely assign teams. Players use this to resolve the weekly fairly easy. They grab as many participants as possible, usually only one team quickly establishes catapults, and destroy the opposing Stronghold. You can even join such matches on the fly when they are already running and slots available. Just look out for Siege Weekly requests in your lfg and custom channels. We’re not sure this is entirely intended, but it’s a reliable way to freely grab the rewards.

Just make sure to not join the match too late. Sometimes you are not properly credited in case you haven’t been on the map long enough. Actually scoring any point however doesn’t seem to be a necessity.

doesn’t appear to matter when you join, but after the health is less than 1k it will not allow people to transfer into the zone (they get an error).

The hardest part for most people is remembering to pick up the quest from the Stronghold when it resets each week. No quest, no completion.

It may also be worth pointing out that the Chult resources it provides don’t count against your weekly cap so it’s basically a free TONG key if you’re done with the campaign. You also don’t have to have the campaign unlocked to get the resources as they’ll be waiting for you when you unlock the campaign.

The Chultan Treasures can also be converted to blue salvage rings if you start getting close to the 100K cap. Quite a few people aren’t aware of the cap or the salvage options.

(PS4) I have encountered an issue when running multiple sieges back to back accross several alts where, even though I am queue group leader, on a team by myself, and was there for the whole match, I didn’t get the quest completion. Has happened multiple times. I started just recapping one supply cache right after other team capped it and seemed to solve the issue.
