Battle For The Bridge Event Review

Today the four-day Call-To-Arms event Battle for the Bridge ends, so it’s time for another review. Some stuff that I said about the recent Gift of Tymora event can also be applied to the CtA, probably even universally and not only Battle for the Bridge. The rewards are outdated and wide spread, the Flame Sprite and Dye Packs merely sell for pennies and the gear in the Bundle is not really viable because Stronghold and SCA Companion gear is superior and cheaper. So besides collectors I don’t see why anyone would buy it.

There’s still the cache however as only (thanks to our users Eric and Sergio Freire pointing out that you can get them from Leadership and Dread Ring as well) additional free-2-play source of Marks of Potency, but to get a good amount of them you need to farm a lot. And other than Tymora you don’t get like an extra reward for just playing the game but have to do separate content, invest additional time.

Talking about outdated you also get the idea that the scaling mechanism can’t handle the current item levels any longer. It has never been a great system to start with, always slightly too hard for undergeared low-level and way too easy for everyone else, but feels more non-challenging than ever before.

The only thing that Battle for the Bridge has going for itself is the fact that it’s super fast and you can really get a substantial amount of runs in even if you’re pugging. On average the Skirmish should be completable in two minutes. So 30 runs (~350 Medallions) per hour are actually possible. This also makes the two daily AD skirmishes a lightspeed completion in case you don’t have time for anything else. Beyond that though I’m not sure investing time in the event over doing other stuff is really worth it, especially if you already own the skins and the Dye. In the end it’ll net you minor RP (is anybody picking up the R1s and R2s anyway?) and a small chance of getting a companion that’s hardly worth anything.

I think they would be doing the event a favor if they’d up the challenge and the rewards a bit. It doesn’t have to be major, but why the end-chest does not at least grant a level appropriate gem (R5 at 70) for example is beyond me. Why not try a purple BoP Mount for like 10,000 Medallions? That wouldn’t be achievable on one CtA weekend, but would eventually offer 110% speed to anyone regularly participating. Even if that’s not the best of ideas, there should be plenty of ways to improve the event.

“only free-2-play source of Marks of Potency”. Not exactly. You can get Marks of Potency and Greater Marks of Potency from Leadership (though GMOPs are pretty rare, you do get them occasionally).

Skill nodes and dread ring daily mission also are sources of MOPs, GMOPs and SMOPS (only dread ring).

I fully agree, but the ” small chance of getting a companion that’s hardly worth anything”.
For my AP cleric build, the flame sprite is a valuable choice. Anyhow, the real problem is that running again and again this quest hoping to find the companion is just a waste of time. You can buy at the AH for few ADs.
