The Cloaked Ascendancy Campaign is all About Choices

The campaign of the upcoming Cloaked Ascendancy module looks like pretty standard protocol at first. In the River District you have a daily quest, a weekly quest, work towards a new set of boons and unlock the master version of Spellplague Caverns along the way. There are few noticeable changes and interesting choices however that I’d like to talk about in this piece.

Campaign Currency

The campaign currency and progression system is as easy as it gets. There are three new currencies. Campaign tasks need two of them (Evidence of Evil & Abandoned Treasures) and boons require an additional third one (Secrets of the Many-Starred). Evidence and Secrets come from the daily and weekly missions, Treasures can be farmed in group content, from a campaign task and the Treasure Maps.

The campaign is a little bit longer than usual. You can earn about 220 Evidence per week and overall need about 1,800. That would set the campaign length at slightly over nine weeks. The needed Secrets for the boons can be earned marginally faster and they also occasionally drop from the Treasure Maps.

The good thing though is that depending on what you want, you can skip or at least postpone large chunks of the campaign. One wing exclusively deals with the campaign store and severely reduces the prices like some tasks in SKT did. So if that’s your thing, especially since new Weapons can be bought there, you can start with that right away. The first tasks also unlocks the Travelling Merchant in the River District, where you can trade currency for other goods, for example Voninblod. It’s not major, but a nice additional source since you won’t likely spent as much time in Mod 10 areas any longer, but still need to maintain your Relic gear.

In the other wing players can progress towards the boons and Spellplague Caverns. If you are not interested in Module 11 Weapons, maybe because you already own Relic ones, you can skip the shop tasks and save your Evidence for this part of the campaign progression. You also can fast forward to the dungeon or spend your currency on the boons first.

A new daily format

The weekly and daily present the players with choices as well. Depending on your liking you can choose to hunt down either Gyrion, Kabal or Nosture once per week.

The daily quest in the meantime doesn’t require a set list of tasks to perform. Instead different activities in the River District add to a progress percentage. 50 Resources at the Shipmaster net 10% towards your daily goal for example, fully upgrading Guard Posts and looting Dig Sites 20%. It’s not recommended to try to get 100% by just slaying mobs around the map though. That’s really the slowest and most boring way to progress.

The boons look solid. There’s some utility with mob CC or AP gain for allies, 3,000 Hit Points and a few more stats. The first three can be acquired in any order, choices again. From the last tier “Planar Vitality” looks strong, which lets players regain 8,000 HP on a deflect. If that thing procs every time, PVP will become even more of a tactical chess match.

Overall the Cloaked Ascendancy campaign is all about choices. I absolutely like that you can invest your currency the way you wish and prioritize certain areas, but it comes at a price. With nine to ten weeks for a full completion this is the longest campaign since original Sharandar, and maybe ever. It helps that toons that already own Relic Weapons might not need to buy into the store tasks at all, but even then four weeks until the Spellplague Caverns unlock is rough when there’s little else to do. If I missed a way to earn additional Evidence let me now, but based on the daily and weekly alone it looks a tad too extensive.

Is there any new armor set coming out with the new module? I’d really like not haveing to refine Voninblood into SKT gear anymore.

Spellplague Caverns drops restored (!) Relic Gear. So old set.

“restored” is a typo right? You aren’t seriously saying that the Lanolin farm has ended, and that I can totally abandon those HEs forever are you?

There might have been a misunderstanding on Twitter and the pieces that drop are unrestored. Sorry for the confusion, I’ll try to get the info for you.

      Thanks for the info mate!

So does this means that with the cost reduction in the store through the campain will make each 200 voninblood cost 38 abandoned treasures? 1 treasure ship HE would then give 400 voninblood, squirmisher’s gambit 800 voninblood?

Interesting question, no clue. We’ll ask around.
