Double Campaign Currency Event Review

Today we want to temporarily move on from the mess that the Dungeon Key Change created an talk about something else instead. With Storm Kings Thunder the devs extended their fold of Double Weekend events on the PCversion by including campaign currencies. So far players were able to boost their progress in Sharandar as well as Dread Ring and a Tyranny event is currently. Is it a good addition or just stealing spots from better ones? We weight in with our review!

First paid completion, then double weekend

When I saw the new events popping up in the calendar, I though it makes sense. With more and more campaigns added, it’s getting more and more difficult for new players to catch up. The amount of content for fresh 70s is amazing, but can turn frustrating when you need months to bring a char through all campaigns. After introducing paid options to speed up things with the ZEN tokens, this basically adds a free-2-play boost. It makes sense that they introduce double weekends for campaigns for which paid completions do already exist. We should expect this pattern to continue. First there will be a ZEN token, then after some time a double weekend will be added to the rotation for the corresponding campaign.

It’s a necessity

Dread RingThe double weekends are not only a convenience upgrade, they are also a necessity. With Storm Kings Thunder the grind is slowly getting out of hand and players need help with the overall amount of daily tasks and campaign completions. This applies to both new and seasoned players. Most campaigns are no one-time completion, but have to be continuously grinded for coffer currencies, dungeon keys or minor AD progression. The double weekends help to ease the pain at least in one area for a certain amount of time.  Guilds might also be able to motivate members to focus on the campaign and get noticeable progress in one of their coffers.

Save your weeklies

Everyone can profit from these double weekends and should. Thanks to the Sharandar one I was able to completed the campaign on my DC lowbie. I was actually annoyed that I missed the Dread Ring one. The 20 Thayan Ciphers up for grabs are 60% of the campaign completion in five days. That’s great! An obvious tip for events like this is to save your weekly so you can complete two within the event. I myself have not done and tested it, but it should obviously be possible.

I can only advise anyone to engage in as many campaign related tasks as possible during these weekends unless you absolutely have no use for the currency. It’s a great way to advance in campaigns or help your guild. The Tyranny weekend also includes Linu’s Favors, which is great because the Tiamat boons are probably those dodged by the players the most.

The new Double Weekends seem to be the way the devs want to speed up older campaigns. It’s a needed feature to keep the overall progression in check while adding newer stuff on top of it. I hope those will get a healthy dose in the rotation so you can regularly level your characters that way. This and a few fixes to the campaign dailies could really ease the pain for old and new players alike.
