Gate Crashers Event Review

The Chasm skirmish was a late addition to the Call-to-Arms event rotation and therefore ran only for the second time this weekend. We have already talked about the problems of the format in recent reviews, but this one even topped it and is easily the worst of all CtAs.

The only thing in its current state that these events have going for them is a quick completion to earn the daily skirmish ADs. Too bad Gate Crashers negates that one benefit by letting the players wait in the middle of the arena for waves that spawn absurdly slow. It might sound weird to complain about a ten-minute task, but with the little rewards CtA actually offers if you’re not after the transmutes or companion for cosmetic or collection reasons, it’s simply hard to justify running it. Let alone that standing around more than fighting is not exactly a fun activity either. There were also some reports that the fight can get stuck if players would accidentally throw mobs out of the arena.

It all led to me doing the skirmish exactly two times over the weekend. It’s actually a shame because the Devourer has a useful active bonus and the Dye Pack and Transmutes are indeed quite neat. Back in the days my tank Guardian Fighter rocked the look with a Perfect Lightning. But since not even my lowbie can make use of the companion, because I’m looking at other options mid-term, this was an easy skip. And the Devourer is only 20k at the auction house anyway.

I also think CtAs are generally not a natural fit next to a double RP weekend, where people are farming the crap out of dragons in WoD and looking for other stuff they can put into their Artifact Gear. It’s more like a double XP or double enchantments type of event.
