Is the Simril Care Package Worth Your ZEN?

Every year during the Winter Festival Neverwinter releases a pack that’s internally labeled “catch up”. It’s basically a small package for returning level 70 players or alts that aims at helping them ease back into the game with viable gear. In my opinion that’s a neat idea. The Winter Festival is a popular event that might lure some players back into the game over the holidays. And in case they rediscover their interest, they can get right back into the action. But what does the “Simril Care Package” actually offer for [sc name=”zenicon”]3,500 and is it really worth investing the ZEN?

Value in Currency

For this article I’m not building up climax to come to the grand conclusion in the last paragraph. Because quite frankly, it’s obvious that the pack is not worth the [sc name=”zenicon”]3,500. In theory, I like the approach of giving comebackers a nice “catch up” possibility, but the package simply doesn’t offer enough. In fact, you could probably reason that this is close to a scam since you can pick up most of the included items cheaper on the Auction House. On PC the stuff adds up to roughly [sc name=”astralicon”]500,000. That doesn’t include a full set of Pilgrim Armor, but why bother with item level 460 gear if you can get blue 490+ pieces from Ravenloft (and Workshops) for pennies? You are vastly overpaying here!

Value in Gameplay

To add insult to injury, you’re not even getting great gameplay value out of the package. You could buy the set for the aforementioned [sc name=”astralicon”]500,000 on the AH to save some AD, but that’s not what I recommend. You can compare the gear to our basic alternate character setup and will realize that the current baseline is already higher. It’s so easy to get item level 500+ armor for example. And running the random queues will net you the superior Primal Weapon set in no time as well. The companion is indeed nice if you still need to run the Ravenloft campaign (which is likely for someone coming back after a break). But in that case you should just grab it from the Auction House and aim for better gear.

Conclusion

I’m not sure what the devs are trying to achieve with the Simril Care Package, but nobody should buy it. I guess if you haven’t been around since module 11 it offers better stuff than you own, but the pack as constructed is completely outdated and you can get better gear from the Auction House for less AD. It’s really a shame since I do like the idea of a catch up mechanism. The offered pack however misses that mark by a mile.

    Simple.

They are trying to scam money out of people who don’t know any better, as most new players will think that the pack must be worth having. After all, no Western company would deliberately charge money for crap, would they? I mean, there are laws!

But Business Ethics are a little different in a country where the army forcibly moves people 800 miles away, points them at a shed full of tools, lumber and nails and tells them to build a village, while their old village valley is flooded for a hydroelectric power plant.

Come on, j0Shi! The Zen Market is a Clip Joint for Mug Punters! You KNOW this.

    🙁

The Walton family would disagree with this assessment…. 😉

^ Agree 1000% with this. PWE is a Chinese owned/managed corporate entertainment company with it’s main HQ located in mainland China. How much do you trust them….really?

It’s not that the package is worthless, just vastly overpriced and outdated.
