Knowing What You Know Now, Would You Have Quit Before Mod 6?

When making decisions we do not have the benefit of the hindsight. I guess we all had situation where we regretted doing something based on its later outcome. It happens, and usually we don’t lose to much sleep over it, because what can you do anyway, right? The topic however makes for a good thought experiment that I’d like to pass to our audience here today.

Once Sucked In, It’s Hard to Quit

Did you know that Uncensored runs the biggest Discord of Neverwinter? Come join our team, streamers and hundreds of players to talk the site and all facets of the game!

Playing an online game as hardcore player you sometimes find yourself in a tricky situation. Let’s say the game hasn’t developed in the way you hoped, and you realize that it no longer matched your needs. You start tossing suggestions around, probably even complaining, and you can bet that one argument thrown your way will look like this: “It’s a free-2-play game, you can always move on”. But can you? This reasoning is faulty, because it doesn’t include time and emotion spent as investment. Once you get sucked into a game, it’s really hard to let go, even if the title has long moved away from being fun for you personally.

Obviously, if you had quit earlier, you could have avoided this trap. Which leads us back to having the benefit of the hindsight and raising the, probably controversial, question: Knowing what you know now, would you have quit before Module 6?

Knowing What You Know Now, Would You Have Quit Before Module 6?

You can probably go with whatever point in time here, but I chose Module 6 because that’s when the game turned for the worse (for many oldschool players). So knowing how the game developed, would you have rather quit back then to not suffer as much today? Or are you fine with the fun the game offered? Maybe you aren’t displeased at all and think the game has developed just fine?

I lost all the spirits of playing Neverwinter a few months ago, there’s nothing fun to do. As they launch more and more gear the old dungeons get boring and useless, people only “farm” ToNG, but why? It’s a complete waste of time, while I love Neverwinter’s combat system, Devs tends to make everything increasingly obsolete over time, which will make the game stagnant with little useful content. Module 6 in my opinion did not completely destroy the game but rather made a stagnant game a bit more challenging for a while (I understand we lost a lot of things with Module 6, however the way the game was, there was no more sense in doing nothing, which is also happening now).

I did left the game due to mod6 ^^
Then came back after a lot of time for another rage quit.
Now it will be my last playing “session” as I’m just waiting one of the good upcoming games to leave for good.

Yep, but with several active VIP-accounts, 53 characters w. Leadership 25 on the main, it’s hard to just quit
(although it’s getting easier with every crappy excuse for a “mod”)

When starting the game on the closed beta on Xbox, the game was truly great, and I couldn’t wait to get back to it.

The amount of players on Xbox back then was massive, probably ten times more than now, and I kinda felt PC-players were just whining because they didn’t want to spend any money at all…

    I was wrong.

    Very, very wrong…

Mod 6 taught me a lot of things, but I never quit at that time.

It did make me stop pursuing Uber-BIS and have fun booning my Alts, as the goal posts moved, the rug was pulled and all the Epic level 60 gear in the bank waiting for my Alts to reach 60 was worthless overnight.

Knowing what I know now, I may never have started playing at all.

Yes, I would have quit. Too much of the game is inaccessible, opaque, and amateurishly designed.

That is an interesting question. I dont know how to answer. I started playing because the game had a loose connection to DnD, which sadly has grown progressively looser. The game has become nothing but grind, grind, and more grind in a bug ridden system. I really do not have fun playing the game. I generally log in just because I have made commitments to the people in my guild.

I would like to play something fun, sadly fun is not a word I have used to describe this game in years. Playing neverwinter really has become nothing more than a chore.

Knowing what I know, I’d have bought a million bitcoins. I wouldn’t have quit Neverwinter though.

Oh, Crikey, I recently found out that if I had bought £25,000’s worth of Bit Coins in 2012, when they were valued in cents, I’d have something like £13 billion now!

      WAAAHH!!

After mod6 six the was only a shadow for its former self! We lost the dungeons. Many good players in my guild quit.

For a hardcore player its not really worth farming dungeons anymore. We had to run Dreadring farm in mod 6-7-8…
Strognhold came. We lost lots od dedicated players. As a guild leader I had to the Stronghold with uninterested newbies without my friends who quit the game. It was very hard and tedious.

We had to wait a year until CN came back. in Mod9. Finally we could do some dungeons. 2 esot+2 etos was boring but at least something.
With the raise of tier3 dungeons nowadays we can run fbi, hati farm, SP, Tong and the new raid looks pretty good too.
Maybe they understand that we want to do hard dungeons for good loot and not heroic encounters, minilairs or short skimirhes. Not to mention fishing, hunting etc.

So in the end I don’t mind quitting.
We have somewhat good content. Hope they keep up making good and hard dungeons!

Yes I would. NWO is shit now. It isn’t toxic comment. It is jsut objective fact that experienced mmorpg players clearly see.

Then came back after a lot of time, only because it’s D&D universe.
Now NWO is boring again, the D&D universe is more than just undeads, trolls and Thay wizards, plus the devs are hiding behind false reasons to don’t give the players what they want, which is pretty simple; new things. A new classe, a new race, new monsters, new lands to explore (not copied from existing ones).
What about the “difficulty” of the recent’s modules, lol, there is not difficulty, just classes nerfs, because of the so easy to tell classes balancing.
Actually there are more bad things to say about NWO than good things, some friends have already leave the game, and I’m packing my stuff to meet them soon.

If I could go back in time and tell the pre NW me about this game I would have never started it.

I was okay with the mod 6 changes, I was fairly new to the game at the time and I enjoyed the content that followed (mostly). The thing that is making me wish I had quit is the Tong ultimate stone grind. Even with a lucky drop rate I need close to 2000 runs per characters…that’s just dumb.

I miss the old NW, after playing mod 6 and the hating the hell out of it I took a year break but now I am back and enjoying the game again thanks to my guild and friends.

The MOD6 was the most horrible experience I had in overall gaming. This was such a devastating blow to everything that was Neverwinter prior to the introduction of the MOD6 and the issues and problems introduced During that mod are still felt to this day.

The introduction of other classes which all play the roles of already presented classes are a major a losing point and especially when the new classes ave overpowered for a whole year.

The game always had a terrible idea for the looting and offers little to no loot at all due to the high chances of exploiting.
They don’t have a strong team of people who watch for the exploiters nor have a strong sense of offering achievements for people who invest some time or money to get to a point where they want to be.

Neverwinter was always forgiving to the players who come at the last mod and offers them quite a lot in terms of allowances. Older players aren’t ever gifted with any sort of benefit and the prizes and RNG drops are just cancerous to say the least. A person should go up to 10 times into a single dungeon before getting the desired item and that’s it. Going 500 x into the dungeon and not getting the item, that will become obsolete in the manner of a month, before you have to go 500 x to another dungeon is what identifies as a pure time waste. There is no real sense of achievement when classes take a strong turnpoint and lose much of what they were defined with, only superficially looked upon, but then again we all know this and still play the game because of its mechanics and because the action RPGs are a big rarity on the PC itself.

Even if a player wants to invest into something that might start some form of advancement, the player can’t really get it or it’ll ultimately fall into the trap of “being old”, and even at that point it will become obsolete.

Let’s say you invest a lot into mastercrafting. Currently looks kind of good, but it’s an extremely tedious process for any newcoming player. In one or two mods it can just disappear and become something less used because “many people used it”. This is practically the “trimming process” and sometimes it’s nor executed properly.

This game teaches you never to really invest or do anything because you will never be certain what would be a good thing to do or achieve. It’s time/prize ratio is abnormally hard for any other video-game I’ve played and it doesn’t help that there’s even RNG to mock you over at the last chance.

This is why i never, ever, again play seeking any meta or BiS build. I will just play it to my hearts content and as such I won’t be focusing on anything that might appear “exploitey” to the developers. I suggest the same to others who want to stay for a bit longer and see where Neverwinter might lead. MOD13 is the first proper MOD since the abomination known MOD6.
