Lockbox of the Lost RNG Test and Review

Another update means another lockbox, in the case of “Swords of Chult” the Lockbox of the Lost. After previewing it I’ve now performed my usual RNG test on the lockbox and have incorporated the results into our RNG toolbox (also available there is the current version of the Glorious Resurgence Lockbox). “RNG test” means I’ve opened a substantial amount of lockboxes on the preview server, 20,000 this time, to get an idea about drop rates. I have performed similar tests for the Merchant Prince LockboxLockbox of the Nine and the Many-Starred Lockbox. Just click through in case you’re interested in those numbers.

As usual you’ll roughly have a 1% chance at one of the major prices, with the legendary one coming in at 0.14%. All drop rates largely match the ones from the Merchant Prince Lockbox, indicating that no major changes were made in “Swords of Chult”.

Blue drops

The big change of the Lockbox of the Lost is the inclusion of the Ultimate Enchanting Stone and Ultimate Mark of Potency due to the refining changes. These however rarely drop from the Lost Artifact Pack and Nine Gods Enchantment Pack. I did test the packs as well and both Ultimate Stones have a drop rate of under 1%. So this rules the lockbox out as substantial supplier on your way to Rank 14s. The included weapon and armor enhancements aren’t too great either.

The Enchantment Pack does land a nice amount of RPs though, slightly more than the Warded Enchantment Pack. It no longer features Wards, which in my eyes could be seen as a plus. Coals never dropped anyway. If you’re after the Soul Sight Crystal by the way look up the Auction House. The artifact drops a lot and can be gotten for pennies. The rest of the blue drops is pretty standard, but I’m not a big fan of including the Jungle Cat Mount Pack again. It wouldn’t have been too hard to offer a new set of mounts here.

Epic and Legendary Drops

The Legendary Carpet of Flying is unique because of its passenger feature. If that’s enough to go after it albeit a weaker equip and combat power is questionable though. Tanks hit by the Bonding nerf might be able to utilize the defense bonus, but it’s generally a stat you can get plenty of elsewhere. I personally am also not a big fan of the look. It’s just too big and stiff. Nonetheless I like the idea of bringing a little bit of Arabian nights to Neverwinter.

I don’t know why, but lockbox companions almost never seem to be worth it. The Allosaur looks nice, but without a great active bonus or setup of slots, it will have a hard time replacing what players already have.

Outlook

It’s not easy to foresee the Lockbox of the Lost‘s place in history, because it has so many firsts. If other lockboxes feature Ultimate Stones and mounts with the passenger feature, I can see this going down as one of the weaker boxes. If not, people might go back to the lockbox occasionally to try their luck.

Is this one worth opening now (as off April, 2018)? Mainly, I am after Epic insignia and Companion packs, which I can use myself, sell the junk

    Cheers!

No. The Lockbox of the Lost is one of the weaker ones and the advise is to stay away.
