Looking into the New Adventurer Packs… Are They Good? Who Should Buy Them?

The devs introduced new Adventurer Packs yesterday that replace the former Adventurer’s Helper Pack on the ZEN Market. The old pack was completely outdated and not worth it’s price tag of [sc name=”zenicon”]1,500. A new “Support Pack” and “Head Start Bundle” at first glance offer way more items at a more reasonable rate. But are the packs really that great? And who should buy them? In this article we look into the new items and try to find an answer!

Worth in Astral Diamonds

In similar articles I usually started with evaluating a pack’s worth in AD. It doesn’t make too much sense for the Adventurer Packs however as they obviously are aimed towards new players and it makes limited sense to resell the included items. Some stuff can be valued in AD, but their actual worth heavily depends on whether you can use them. The Standard Dungeon Chest Keys are a classic example. They cost [sc name=”astralicon”]2,500, but if you have lots and lots from being a VIP, their value decreases dramatically. So for these packs I’d like to look at gameplay value only.

Adventurer’s Support Pack ([sc name=”zenicon”]1,000)

The smaller Support Pack is what comes close to what the old Helper Pack had to offer. It’s an upgrade both in contents and because it’s cheaper. Players get very basic consumables and useful items to help them in their early journey. In case you really just want to try out the game and throw some money around, you can’t do wrong here. All consumables are nice to have and the bag and XP boost great when starting out. Just know that none of the included items are super valuable and either can be obtained fairly easy within the game, or will get replaced with better stuff rather soon.

Also, if you plan to seriously commit to Neverwinter and login daily, you’ll get better value with investing the same [sc name=”zenicon”]1,000 in a VIP subscription. It contains Dungeon Keys and Scrolls of Identification as well, and over time you’ll overall get way better items by opening lockboxes with your daily Enchanted Key.

Adventurer’s Head Start Bundle ([sc name=”zenicon”]4,000)

Players have to invest a little more for the Head Start Bundle, but it also contains a lot more. The “large” version of the support pack should last a little longer than the corresponding items from the smaller pack. While you’ll probably replace the rather small 12-slot Bag of Holding at some point for example, the 24-slot Greater Bag of Holding has a chance to stay in your inventory forever. Overall though this is still nothing to get excited about. It’s however a major convenience boost, especially for players that are brand-new.

What really separates the Head Start from the Support Pack is the other, more permanent and universally useful items that come with it. Players get a VIP subscription, additional bank slots, weapons that scale with your level, a mount, and companion. The Gilded Giant Spider is nice, because you can get the Wanderer’s Fortune Insignia Bonus right away. Just make sure to pick the right type of Insignias that match the mount slots from the included Choice Packs. Wanderer’s Fortune drops additional refining points when slaying mobs. New players need them left and right to upgrade gear, so this is indeed a good choice for a starting mount.

I’m not equally sold on the companion. It comes with three Bonding Runestones, but especially new players should probably aim for a pet that can equip rings. Those are simply as much easier to gear because rings are so easy to obtain in the game. The Kenku Archer is not a bad companion, but I think there would have been better options. You’ll probably replace it at some point because it’s not what you want for the endgame or even midgame progression.

Conclusion

Overall both packs are definitely an upgrade from the old Adventurer Packs, but do know that they will only help you get started and offer little items that will stick through your entire Neverwinter journey. Some included items will get replaced, others become less valuable as you level up, or at least get increasingly more easy to obtain once you’re 70. Additionally, if you plan to be active in the game, I would rather invest the [sc name=”zenicon”] into a VIP subscription. Long-term this is the smart way to invest your money.

This first and foremost applies to the Support Pack, but to some extent also to the Head Start Pack. For [sc name=”zenicon”]4,000 you can get 4-5 months of VIP subscription, which over time should net you more than the package has to offer. But obviously that’s more of an investment in the future while the Head Start Packs is going to help you “right now”.

If I started brand new I would invest in the Head Start Pack but only with a 20% off coupon or during a 40 or 50% sale. The mount, bank slots, bag and VIP rank make it well worth it at those prices, imo

But they removed the Class Booster packs! To get the account-wide companions on new characters, we have to go to Reward Claims Merchant now, IF we already bought them. in future, we cannot buy them.

The Head Start would only be worth it if it were an Account-Wide unlock on at least the mount and Companion, although I already have at least three mounts with Wanderer’s Fortune per character and a Storm Rider archer for all from an old promo. I use the Ioun of Radiance, though.

There was a time when the Mulhorand would have been worth having, but as we can level to 70 in about 3 weeks just from invoking, they are a complete waste of space now. As soon as my latest Alt hits 70, one of my other characters has a complete set of primal weapons and gear for her.

And new players will have Vistani waiting for them.

You can get to 70 even quicker if you have a guild and friends so this makes the weapons even more worthless.

Complete garbage packs for what they ask in price. It is overpriced and feels like robbery to buy such things. You don’t need additional inventory space in your bags or bank at the beginning, and very soon you’ll find extra bags and mounts for free or at a small AD cost.
If someone purchases 1000 zen or 4000 zen at the beginning, it’s probably because he or she likes the game and plans to play through all the content. Rather buy the VIP subscription for optimal returns in the investment made like it has been pointed out in the article.

They seem to have also removed the Bahumut pack with the Moonbow Priestess, which was a pretty good companion for under-geared parties that were not getting 100% Crit Chance from Bonding procs.

Now I KNOW that pack was still there after the Class Boosters were removed. Now it’s gone. I was waiting for a decent sale.

They seem to have removed almost everything that has an account-wide companion in it, except the retardedly overpriced packs.

I wonder what will happen to Knights of the Feywild etc? I got it in a 50% Steam sale in Mod 2, when it came with 600k rough AD. So I cannot see it anyway on Zen Market.

There also seems to be a surprise 25% Sale on today, just after I opened a bunch of Invocation bags to make space and used the 20% coupons to buy Pres Wards.

    😡
