Lost City of Omu Ring Guide: Which Pieces Are Worth Going For?

In this piece I’d like to quickly go over the ring choices of Neverwinter’s Lost City of Omu module and discuss which pieces are worth going for. It might feel a bit outdated since the next module has long launched, but don’t forget that Ravenloft introduced no new viable endgame rings. So Omu is still one of the go-to destinations for jewelry, especially if you’re a newer player.

Masterwork Rings

Masterwork Rings as part of Mastercrafting V Recipes come with the great advantage that they are instantly available on the Auction House and probably even within your guild / alliance. All rings however come with a certain price tag that certainly not all players are willing to pay.

Beaded Assault Ring

Although I’m absolutely an advocate of balancing characters around Armor Penetration, I’m not too fond of the stat on rings. The major reason is that if you equip companions with them, you might constantly have to retool you character based on the level of your bondings and pet. But as basic tool to min/max your character, it’s obviously a decent enough choice. Plus if you’re strictly building for bis it’s a non-issue anyway.

Beaded Restoration Ring

The Restoration Ring is great because it features Recovery and two offensive slots, which earlier lines of rings in Mod 12 missed or only featured in their legendary version. Naturally this is a great choice for all your support needs.

Bronzewood Raid Ring

All gear with Power, Critical Strike, and two offensive slots becomes at least viable for DPS toons. The Raid Masterwork Ring is no different. It’s not strictly “bis” because other Hunt Rings (see below) feature superior equip bonuses, but it’s not like you have to feel bad for sporting this one.

Lichstone Ward Ring

This is a great defensive ring, except that nobody needs defense these days. So the rating more reflects the state of the game rather than the actual usefulness. Could it be helpful for PVP specialist builds? Probably, but I’m honestly not sure…

Eku and Makos Rings

Eku and Makos offer two different rings for Eku’s Favor and Makos’s Favor, which can be obtained by grinding the Omu zone.

[su_table]

Ring of Defensive Action

What I said about the Ward Ring above also applies to the Ring of Defensive Action from Eku. It gets one more star because it can be obtained from the campaign and thus is much cheaper.

Ring of Offensive Action

I don’t know, but I like this one. Power/Recovery and a DPS enhancing equip bonus is a weird combo, because it kinda gives you a little bit of everything and the “jack of all trades” approach is not really included in the current meta. But for some builds that make heavy use of dailies and don’t mind a bit Recovery (think Control Wizards), this is both a budget and endgame viable alternative.

Legendary Rings

Legendary Rings in Lost City of Omu largely drop from Hunts, but some also come from treasure maps and the weekly campaign instance Fane of the Serpent.

[su_table]

Ring of the Battledancer +5

I honestly have a weak spot for gear with a substantial amount of Movement on it. I have a “speed” loadout” that I use while farming Masterwork nodes and such and it really makes a difference. Other than that? I guess the ring lives up to its name?

[icon name=”star-o” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]
[icon name=”star-o” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]

Ring of the Deathdasher +5

Talking about living up to its name… Ugh? I like Movement, but not in the form of a completely useless equip bonus. But wait, isn’t it great for your bonding pet to build Recovery and Power? Yes, until you realize that Deathdasher comes with two defensive slots…

Ring of the Gravestriker +5

On the contrary our next model, Gravestriker, has that “bis” smell surrounding it. I’m not too sure, but I think the equip bonus should also grant base stats and procs on pets. Just note that you need to combine two different ranks to stack the bonuses (like anyone has a +5, right?). Half a star shy of a perfect rating because some other rings with percentage damage increases are better for DPS.

Ring of the Hurtmocker +5

Trying to come up with the positives for this one. It’s a great source of HP and at least doesn’t have Companion Influence on it? Honestly guys, help me out here. What am I missing?

Ring of the Lifekeeper +5

Hey look, another defensive minded ring that absolutely no one needs. Ok, maybe not literally no one, but it’s close. Oh, and I absolutely love those conditional equip bonuses. They are just so reliable (especially since you’re like never operating below 25% unless you’re dead).

Ring of the Shadowstalker +5

You remember the stuff I said about Armor Penetration on rings above? That totally doesn’t count if you get an additional 2.5% damage! This one belongs on any DPS character, even ranged ones. There are really only a few selected situations in which you do not fight within the 25 feet radius. The only thing that definitely sucks is that you only get one shot at the ring per week and character through Fane. Even a +3 version however can outperform other choices although it only has one offensive slot.

[icon name=”star” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]
[icon name=”star” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]
[icon name=”star” class=”” unprefixed_class=””]

Ring of the Spellflinger +5

Well uhm… This is an interesting one again. Crit / Recovery is perfect for some support, but then you have those two defensive slots and an equip bonus that’s not useful for such builds and few can even actually utilize. I do however believe it has its place on those support builds that do not need power (to share) and are maxed so that they can add a little more defensive tools. It’s a small niche, but it’s there.

    Hello there!

I’m using Ring of the Hurtmocker +5 on my GF tact. I constantly have temp HP, so it’s a cheap +1k defense for me. It’s really easy to balance two defensive slots with a ring which has two ofensive slots (if you feel like 2x defensive is too much).

I find it really, really good – especially since it provides stats!

You should’ve included Shadowstalker +3 which for DPS outperforms Gravestriker +5 even without second enchant slot assuming having at least 150k total power which is not hard in average group with OP and AC. Many people automatically consider it crap because it has only 1 slot while it’s one of the best all around (not including situational Slayer rings) DPS rings after its higher rank versions and Offensive Action ring for some classes.

Any chance you could do a precise comparison including those from previous mods like Soshenstar / Underdarks ?

The issue with those global guides is that they are very hard to maintain as you have to rework them with every addition. I definitely would like to have something like that, but for now we only maintain our “newbie” gear guides that’s nor as much of a comparison but rather an overview of the options and where to get the stuff: https://blog.nwo-uncensored.com/neverwinter-ring-guide-for-module-13/.

Our approach is very simple here: We maintain what we have and whenever there’s time we add on top of that.
