The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 11: Campaigns, Motes, So Much To Do

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

I invested another weekend to push the lowbie character past 70. The Double XP event really turned out to be a nice happenstance, because I completed the storyline at 400k XP before 70. So the last grind was acceptable, but my condolences to those that aren’t as fortunate and probably have to start repeating Vigilance Tasks at 67 or so. We’ve already talked about that plenty. It’s a disaster of a design in my eyes, but it won’t likely change.

I got to 70 slightly over 1,600 item level by the way, which made me smile because that was actually the gear level I choose to start my first lowbie project with. Back then people challenged you would even be close to 1,600 just doing the storyline, so that argument can finally be put to rest.

Similar to my experience with the former lowbie SW, I was just overwhelmed with the stuff that needs to be done at 70. As seasoned endgame player you kind of don’t realize how much the game has steadily grown over the years. There are five campaigns now, four adventure areas and Strongholds (I might skip Module 7 with this one by the way, because I don’t feel good about joining a guild with the perspective that the char will be retired sooner or later anyway). So you never run out of stuff to do and the sessions are quite diversified.

In terms of transition from pre 70 to post 70 it’s amazing what a Module can do. A few months ago I literally had no idea where to get Seal of the Elements from and now they drop left and right from Skirmishes and Heroic Encounters. You are actually able to smoothly start getting gear upgrades, because nobody kicks from Skirmishes any longer, or at least I haven’t experienced it yet. I was so surprised I briefly tried to queue for good old Kessell and Shoers of Tuern, which were an absolute no-go for me with my lowbie back in the days. But the queue never popped, indicating that those quickly fell out of favor because the easier Module 8 content does drop everything you need.

After buying the two pieces of Dusk gear from the Trade Bar Store, I already own the Drowcraft Shirt, Elemental Assault Boots, item level 137 Rings, which are only 3k on the Auction House and am working towards the Drowned Artifact Weapon Set. I will preview my longterm goals for gear next week, but looking at the speed of the upgrades, I’m quite positive I can hit the 2.5k plateau in a reasonable amount of time, which I hope will be enough to get my into dungeons.

So long!
