The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 22: Quite A Week

Welcome to a new project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

Lowbie Luck
Lowbie Luck

The last week might have been the luckiest one of the character yet. I got a Companion Pack from the New Life Lockbox, which was the first major drop I got from the VIP in about six months. Considering the drop rates, this sounds about right. I turned the pack into ADs, because I don’t really want any of the Companions (aiming for the Bear Cub longterm) and bought progression in other areas.

I got myself Valindra’s Crown to complete the Artifact set, converted a few ADs into ZEN for future Mounts and Companions and unlocked the Artifact Stat Increase and Class Feature as well as the right At-Will Artifact power. Cubes are not as expensive today, but these are exactly the type of things you normally don’t do when you need to be picky. On the Artifact Stat Increase I rolled 397 with limited tries. I normally aim for 350+ and then move on, so this is absolutely amazing although the gameplay relevance is marginal.

Legendary Lowbie
Legendary Lowbie

Luck continued with a legendary drop on a random Prophecy of Madness skirmish. It’s not only the first legendary of the lowbie, but actually the first legendary I encountered through all of my characters. Sadly the drop also impressively illustrates how annoying the RNG in this area of the game is. After months you are finally able to get a hand on a BIS item and then it’s not the Ring you need. The Ring of the Fortress generally is one of the more useless ones anyway. I’m not gonna salvage it for 6k, but it probably won’t leave the bank slot either.

To complement the lucky drops, I brought Jewelcrafting to level 25 and am now able to get a second double slot Ring. Leadership? Let’s not talk about that…

See you next week!

Congrats on the drops J0Shi. I myself have had good luck with VIP (I bought rank 12 on the first day). I was very negative about it until i got an Epic Flail Snail (took like 6 months) and sold it for 4.5M. Before that the best I got was an Epic Companion (don’t recall which but one of the elementals i sold for like 800k). Then recently I got the epic companion pack. At the time the owlbear was worth more than the pack so I opened it and selected the owlbear (removed the bonding stone if i remember correctly) and sold it on AH. I know VIP is getting a lot of heat atm, but I still find it to be profitable and all the little things about it generally improve my gaming experience to a point I cannnot imagine living without it. Now bring on VIP 13 and the ability to bypass cutscenes 🙂

3 accounts: 2 near 6 month, first from vip start~8m, not counting 40% off keys…. and only 1 artifact for 200k
      Nice RNG? Eh? )
