The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 33: Cleric Bests Sharandar

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

While leveling a new char I personally try to retain some fun and variety. Whenever I feel frustrated by the repetitive tasks, I cut down the daily routine and get to my sweet spot for that character. For my lowbie DC this is currently doing two leveling dungeons and grinding one campaign. On your first char you will most likely do more, but for me this is exactly the amount I can enjoy.

Sharandar: Check!

After reaching 70 I can also only advise to complete campaigns sequentially. You can theoretically do everything at once, but especially for casuals it might take too long to actually reach goals. Completing a campaign feels good and you can cross something off your checklist. Thanks to the new double event my DC recently bested Sharandar, which I couldn’t have done alternating campaigns on each day. I moved to Elemental Evil and making good progress there as well.

I was expectedly able to resub to VIP by just selling some of the drops and kept the rest for personal progression. Other than gear from Trade Bars nothing great came from the daily keys. The everyday progress however is still amazing. Especially the refining points, Marks and Enchantments are amazing. I currently still stuff most drops away, because I do not own my endgame items yet, but they will be of great use eventually.

As long as I’m not running epic dungeons I won’t care for a true build. I’m still just equipping what’s there and raises my item level. Currently slightly above 2,000, I will probably push for 2,500 before attempting any group content. The Siege of Neverwinter offered a very good way of progression as you can either get an additional Artifact that doesn’t completely suck or a Mount by just doing the daily. I didn’t get enough currency for either at the end, so I’m saving up those Writs for the next time.

See you next time!

The demonic HE’s were an easy way to get my toons from 2k to 2.5k by trading in ichor for loot. I could just run around Icewind or Thay.
