The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 37: Here We go Again!

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

We’re back at it!

To the surprise of absolutely everyone, me included, I decided to shake off some dust from the project and get my lowbie cleric back into the mix. One of the reasons is quite simple: The Cloaked Ascendancy did its job! Since the module didn’t introduce substantial progression for characters that already completed Storm Kings Thunder, I happened to run out of stuff to do. Well not really, but I actually recently completed the campaigns with all my mains and also don’t have to farm for too much gear right now. So this is exactly the time to up the alt play a little bit.

The cleric got rich while bored

My little cleric actually has been widely ignored in recent months. I only did the weeklies it already has unlocked and the Siege event to get the Griffon. I also claimed the daily key from VIP and was a little bit surprised to see 2,000,000 AD on the character. Wow! The last write-up for the diaries dates back to February though, roughly 150 days have passed since then. Given the average drops from lockboxes minus renewing the VIP subscription, 2 million actually is a reasonable number for such a time frame. Claim your keys boys, it’s worth it!

So I retooled the char, got the Mounts, Insignias Bonuses, Rank 8 Enchantments, Artifacts and Artifact Gear I need and jumped right into the pending campaigns. That’s mainly Module 10 and 11, but I also haven’t fully completed the Maze Engine yet. My current item level is 11,233 by the way (~2,6k under the old system).

Introductory quests suck

I eagerly anticipated playing the DC again, but the introductory quests managed to quickly smash my motivation. Especially doing the rounds in Sea of Moving Ice (SoMI) is rough. It was still fun because the toon had little trouble in any area. I specced into a hybrid DPS / buffing DO and already have enough damage, enough healing, enough everything to easily complete Storm Kings Thunder and Cloaked Ascendancy solo content. I’m not sure it’s a true shocker, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless.

I don’t think I will commit to SoMI long-term by the way. I’ll probably end up skipping it entirely minus the Svardborg unlock. In Mod 12 the devs pretty much hand over Relic gear so all you need to do is complete one weekly Svardborg for your Ostorian Tale Carving and be a happy critter. So SoMI is just a grind for two marginal boons and the keys for extra chests and Marks, which I’m not going to do. I’ll take one of the weapon sets of Mod 11 instead.

That’s a wrap!

Have to say I really enjoyed the DC after an extended absence. Did a few quests, read a few guides and it just feels good to finally get an alt going again. Next week we’ll talk a little bit about my current gear goals and the Summer event. Until then I try to not get yelled at too much for not healing or buffing enough!
