Many-Starred Lockbox RNG Test and Review

I know I’m a little bit late to the party when it comes to the Many-Starred Lockbox on PC, but since I did my routine mass opening on preview the other day, it can’t hurt to share the results. And for console users this is also a great resource in terms of what to expect from the lockbox. So without further ado, here are the numbers, which I have also incorporated in our RNG toolbox.

The Results

First of all the drop rate of legendary Mount is eye-catching. Normally lockboxes return major rewards at a rate of 1 out of 200 (0.45% in this sample – pretty accurate), but only a fraction of those are legendary. In this case, the Arcane Arcane Whirlwind is an equal partner to the epic rewards. It’s so suspicious that I wouldn’t bet your house on it and carefully try to replicate this on live. The prices on the Auction House do not really suggest that the legendary Mount is dropping more often than others.

The Whirlwinds seem to be a popular choice for players both because of the equip Power boost and look. Also clever groups mix the Tome of Ascendance with the Wheel of Elements to get even more buffs. It’s a viable Artifact.

Fashion Pack is a fail…

Otherwise the box is looking solid. The Enchantment Pack has the Barkshield Enchantment, which after the Module 11 changes is very strong and the Fey Wolf is the first blue Mount that can carry the popular Assassin’s Covenant Insignia Bonus. Overall not too flashy, but not shabby either.

One thing I’d like to talk about however is the Ascendant Fashion Pack. Oh my god! Labeled as experiment by its designer, it can safely be discarded as fail! Please never do this again…

[su_quote cite=”rgutscheradev” url=”http://forum.arcgames.com/neverwinter/discussion/comment/12935868/#Comment_12935868″]The fashion pack is definitely a bit of an experiment. It’s my experiment so I’m interested to see how it will work out!

I tried to keep the drop rate low enough that the market won’t be flooded with them, but there’s no really good basis for comparison here, so there was definitely some guesswork. We’ll see *fingers crossed*.[/su_quote]

I guess they wanted to try something new and had good intentions, but the pack is selling for 1k AD on the Auction House. Yes, that’s one thousand lousy Astral Diamons for a lockbox drop. At least it’s only dropping at a low clip, but I still cringe every time I get this on live. Add that the fashion as designed is not really great. The devs seem to think that players want super exotic stuff while we are still looking for the most basic of customization options. Becky’s post on the official forum pretty much sums it up.

Looking ahead

If the drop rate for the Arcane Whirlwind turns out to be legit, the lockbox is a real money maker. Also with cool looking Mounts and the Barkshield Enchantment it should retain most of its value going forward. Normally I do not open current lockboxes because drops tend to flood the market. In this case however you can’t do wrong!

This was done on the preview server, where you can freely multiply items. No money was spend.
