Mod 6 Preview & Analysis – Discontinued Gear and Dungeons

Looking into the collection of the new Paladin class you’ll notice that a bunch of items are missing. While that could be a case of “not ready yet”, there are hints that level 60 gear might not only become outdated, but discontinued.

A related topic are the dungeons. As stated in the AMA Review, it currently looks like Mod 6 will only be rolling with six revamped epic dungeons: Cragmire Crypts, Grey Wolf Den and Temple of the Spider as well as Malabog’s Castle, Valindra’s Tower and Lair of Lostmauth. Make it seven with the Tiamat HE.
Currently you are also unable to enter the normal versions of the dungeons in the adventure zones, but you can start dungeoneering as early as level 19 with the new and fast three-char leveling versions of CC, GWD and ToS, in which chars are scaled to level 70.

That might be it and actually fits some comments by the devs about the dungeons in Mod 6. Gcrush said during a stream that there will be three dungeons available right at 70 (MC, VT, LoL) and three more once you’re geared (CC, GWD and ToS). Lindsay Haven said during the AMA that they will eventually be reworking all dungeons, but some will be released at a later point.
Dungeon Master's GuideThe item that tracks the new Cache Rewards, which will be replacing the Dungeon Chests, also lists the six mentioned dungeons.

With the revamped dungeons also all old rewards are scratched and new currency drops, which you can hand in at a reworked Drake and Unicorn Seal vendor in PE for gear. It seems that all level 60 T1 and T2 gear is discontinued with the exception of Black Ice Gear. Dread Ring Lair Rewards no longer list Thayan Zealot and Dread Servitor pieces and the Draconic Templar Armor is removed from the WoD store. You can still buy Dread Legion and Fabled Iliyanbruen pieces from the respective campaign stores, but that seems to be a leftover. Still available is all cosmetic gear and transmutes.

This doesn’t affect gameplay at all, because the gear simply isn’t needed any longer. 60 will become a level among many on your way to 70, which means current gear will technically be BiS for one level and it makes zero sense to hand it out as major reward in dungeons. But for collectors this is a friendly heads up that you might need to complete some collections asap because the items will no longer be available in Mod 6.

The change to the dungeon event hour is also interesting. It really seems they want better control over how much players are able to get in different areas of the game. The event hour now only gives RADs and the extra rewards you can get from dungeons per day is one Cache of the Elements and one Cache of the Protector, which should contain the new currency needed for gear, maybe among other things.
This means farming will get devalued and it’s another casual-friendly change that mostly hits the hardcore gamers.

One speculative note: Most Enchantment Shards we see on the AH are from Dungeon Delve Chests, so if they are scratched and the only replacement is the new Drake and Unicorn Seal vendor, prices are bound to go way up.

Nice stuff! Does this mean we need to cash in all our Seals and Zone Currencies (i.e. Kessel’s Sigils) before transition or will they still have some use? Also, what’s up with the increase in ring prices lately? Junk rings are going for “over salvage value” which is odd. Is it just the glut of fresh 60s looking to put some kind of purple in that slot until they can get a Personalized sorted or something from ELOL?

Zone currencies from the Mods will retain their value because the campaigns are still functional. Drake Seals and Unicorn Seals, although they seem to not drop any longer, can be traded for RADs. The other Seal vendors are untouched, but that might change.
