Neverwinter Gateway is Getting Shut Down Permanently

Today the legit players lost a valuable tool to the botters once again. The German news section has an announcement up that states that the Gateway will be shut down permanently. The international news is expected to be released later today. This is the result of an ongoing internal discussion about the Gateway that started with taking it down two weeks ago.

The news states that the devs couldn’t stop the bots abusing it and they are unwilling to continue to invest major resources into the fight. Additionally the botting activity did cause performance issues on both the gateway and the game servers. Players will be compensated with a Mini Apparatus of Gond companion. It’s not yet decided how to reintroduce the SCA Companion Gear to the game.

Honestly hackers and bots are going to exist, regardless of the MMO or community. They’ll just lose more players in the end like they’ve lost a bunch already.

As I said somewhere else, I say again.

This is a Dungeons and Dragons game. Where is the fantasy? Where is the Epic Tales of adventure?

“Here, have endless hours of grinding, the perfect representation of Dungeons and Dragons on a computer!”

Cryptic failed, they outright failed. The SCA had that spark of adventure, buy the companions you want to see going in an adventure through the sword coast, level them up to make them stronger, and watch them face challenge after challenge.

Yes, there was barely any effort put into it.
Yes, the art assets were laughably bad.
Yes, it could had been so much better with so little effort.

But it still had that spark of adventure that makes Dungeons and Dragons what it is. A tale of fantasy and adventure you make yourself.

Where is the adventure, now that I face Demogorgon for the 1000th time(Actual numbers.), hoping to finally brute-force my way through the ridiculous Random Number Generator behind the +5 ring I need?

Where is the fantasy, looking at expenses of ~2.000.000 Million Astral Diamonds per significant upgrade to my gear, that I can only feasibly pay by running repetitive content across dozens of alts in the most mind-numbingly way possibly.

The decision to take down the SCA proves that Cryptic as a company failed to even grasp the spirit of fantasy and adventure this game should embrace.

I do not know what kind of north Cryptic is setting sails for.

But I know that you’ve just thrown out to the sea one of the very few remnants of the land of fantasy you were supposed to take us to.

And no matter where this ship reaches shore in the end, here I can safely say that the captain that led this vessel was not the one we should had entrusted with the task of reaching Faerûn.

For the stars no longer sing, and the sea no longer talks. Now, only the falling of coins decorate the voyage to this “Fantasy” land.

Well, ateway was website, websites are easy to automate, Cryptic never tried counter gateway automation, NO single signs to make automation harder.

Cryptic just did what they do best, shoot on Their own foot and Punished players.

Their lack of creativity and efforts – Nerf and Shutdown if you cant Fix it.

…next action can be fight against **** – Shutdown gameservers, sure it will stop them…
