Neverwinter Lockbox Guide 2018: Which One To Open?

Lockboxes are Neverwinter’s “lootcrate” system. They contain a random pack with a low chance at winning an epic or legendary prize. With each bigger update, a new lockbox with new unique items is introduced that frequently drops from all mobs in the game. Lockboxes can be opened with Enchanted Keys, which are available for real money on the game’s ZEN market.

Although players generally despise lootcrate systems, we are trying to give you up-to-date advice on the best lockboxes to open in this article. Our evaluation is based on market values, gameplay relevance and drop rates (if there are significant differences between lockboxes). With that in mind, here’s our current top lockboxes to open:

Merchant Prince Lockbox

The first lockbox from “Tomb of the Nine Gods” (review here) is an easy recommendation! Not only does everyone love to ride dinosaurs, but the blue line of drops contain decent rewards like Coalescent Wards or the Feytouched Enchantment. Assuming that the mounts will stay a fan-favorite for quite a while, the marketability is pretty good. Maybe with the exception of the Stronghold Pack the lockbox has no apparent weaknesses.

Runic  Lockbox & Firemane Lockbox

From older lockboxes the marketability of Runic is still pretty good. Most blue drops sell for a decent price. The Inscribed Enchantment Pack features the Lightning, one of the better DPS enchantments there is. Additionally the Ostorian Relic Pack offers limited help in the Voninblod grind in case you’re still dealing with Module 10 stuff. Depending on your platform and what you need, the Firemane is another decent one, especially since it contains one of those profession packs that sell rather well these days. Check prices and your needs and adjust accordingly.

Many-Starred Lockbox

The lockbox from Neverwinter’s Cloaked Ascendancy (review here) has a very good lineup of rare rewards. The Whirlwinds look great and feature Power as equip bonus. Additionally the Tome of Ascendance is a great artifact if you want to maximize buffs in a party. The blue drops feature some useful stuff as well. Lukan’s Enchantment Pack has Barkshield Enchantment and Kabal’s Artifact Pack the Wheel of Elements for example. Too bad including fashion with the Ascendant Fashion Pack was a failed experiment. Luckily that one doesn’t drop too often.

Glorious Resurgence Lockbox

Instead of opening one of the older lockboxes, it sometimes makes more sense to just go with Resurgence. The choice packs offer a wide range of rewards and it always features the latest blue drops, which are normally better than what earlier lockboxes had to offer. You really can’t do wrong with this one. Right now however, thanks to the current lockbox being very weak, you should skip Resurgence.

I’m a bit surprised you don’t mention the profession packs in here. Those packs in the older boxes now sell for a hefty amount (where they used to be seen as a lost key).

    Artisan’s Professions Pack – 45k AD
    Professions Master Pack 50k AD
Quartermaster’s Professions Pack – 57k AD (actually same content as Artisan’s, so a bit overpriced IMO)

True. The latest lockbox to include a profession pack was of the Nine, which however is considerably worse despite the pack. That’s another + for Firemane it seems.

No mention of the Firemane lockbox? It has always been a very good one to open for profit to me

It’s mentioned in the paragraph about Runic. Cheers!

What about Lockbox of the Lost, or did that come out after this review?

    Cheers!
