Neverwinter Weekender: Twilight Tor Opens Its Doors

weekenderlogoThe Neverwinter Weekender is our weekly column that contains everything you need to know to have some fun along the Sword Coast on the weekends! We’ll inform you guys about the events across all platforms, preview and review them as well as hand out some tips and guides. This is the perfect spot to start off your adventures!

Holidays are always a good time to log into the game and this year its no different. Twilight Tor opens its doors for Neverwinter’s annual Winter Festival and on top of that players can claim daily free gifts from the ZEN Market. Additionally there’s flurry of double events running through until December 27th. Consoles and PC all get 2x XP, Professions, and Guild Marks. And because that’s apparently still not enough, ZEN services and items are 20% off.

The only thing that differs on the platforms are the charge promotions. PC gets bonus ZEN, Xbox ZEN discounts, and PS4 discounts and a pack sale! Happy holidays indeed!

We hope you guys will enjoy the weekend with our overview! In case you have any questions or remarks make sure to share them on our social channels, put them in the comments below, or visit our message board!

Unfortunately the daily free zen items seems to have bugged out and the second day has not been claimable.

This year’s Winter Festival seems to be a bunch of crap. My Top Ten Reasons why:

    1) People hated fishing in SoMI. So, of course, they make Ice Fishing like in SoMI!

    2) Over the last two years I got Legendary Poles on twenty characters. This year, they have broken sticks which I can trade in for epic Ash Fishing Rods. There seems to be no Oak Rods or any Legendary rods.

    3) My Legendary rod made fishing fast and slick. This year’s fishing mechanic is absolutely tedious, SO slow, and boring. And the damn fish always gets away! What on EARTH were they thinking?

    4) Instead of ice holes, they have enormous ice crevasses you can fall in to and drown! And no skeletons can rise to attack us! Boo!

    5) Last year I collected all my Baits on one character and kept them in the extra Bank Slots I bought with Zen. Some months ago, they changed to balls of worms or something. When Winter Festival started, they were all BOUND TO CHARACTER! WHY?

    6) So now I can fish on only her, unless I buy bait with AD or currencies? Unless there’s a good chance of fishing up a Gond Hammer, forget it.

    7) Last year, I don’t think we even needed bait. The different Baits just improved our chances of quality hauls. This year, No Bait, No Fishing.

    8) Last year’s Epic Sledge is now an overpriced Zen item, but STILL has only two Insignia slots, like any old Green mount.

    9) Unlike Siege of Neverwinter, there is no Simril Crafting. Instead, an NPC by the lake basically sells us stuff in exchange for currencies.

    10) As usual, the zone is full of Toxic Trolls and Scammers, with guild groups False-Flagging people for scamming, and others actually scamming.

    Grr!

    But it’s not all bad.

    1) I like the look of the new, green Star of Simril (unbound) companion for 14 Stars of Fortune, especially for Alts who like Augments. It’s a better Active bonus than the free, green Ioun of Radiance all my characters can get from an old Arc Promo, and has OFF, OFF, OFF, Ring, Ring, Ring slots. If, like Ioun Stones, it cannot be killed in combat, it’s a decent free upgrade. And if the Active Bonus increases at Blue and Purple, great!

    2) The Yeti Mount (BoP to Character) for 18 Stars of Fortune looks ridiculous, so it IS quite fun!. I think I’ll go and scare people in IWD by sneaking up on them and jumping on them with it! LOL! Thing is, with Vistani gear, IWD is not the challenge it was in days gone by, so few will be scared by a single, giant Yeti…

    3) As I farmed it for a few years, most of my characters (except those rolled since last year) have between 26 and 40 Stars of Fortune on them, so I could get two Star of Simril Companions, or one plus a Mount, straight away on many. I gave one away to a level 40 friend, so I should easily get the mount and companion on all my characters and still have a few companions left to sell on the AH.

But apart from the daily Talk to Mayor, Simril Package Girl and Telescope Boy, I think I’ll mostly pass this year.

    🙁

So, you didn’t like the fishing? 😉

Good thing that’s only like a 5th of what’s there. I find the slalom to be great fun, and the monsters on ice is decent, although the bosses don’t stand still! I still don’t understand the point of the telescope, other than to get the daily star. I haven’t opened any gifts yet, so I don’t know what that’s about, supposedly that’s good enough to bring the scammers out of the woodwork.

      No I didn’t! 😉

The other events are fun for the first few years, but the only real point of doing those was for the currencies to upgrade to a golden Legendary Fishing Pole. I did that 20 times and they broke it, so NEVER AGAIN!

      ILS NE PASSERONT PAS!

The point of the Telescope is:

      a) One free Star of Fortune every day. IIRC that’s 2 per day during Festival Height
      b) Learning Lore from the area for achievements
      c) getting those things that sort of work like minor buff potions (unbound)
      d) XP for the quest, which levels up your new Star of Simril Companion

The voucher you exchange for a Starlight Package, they have a Simiril Gift, which you use in a party of five TRUSTED FRIENDS who will not rip you off. You can get mounts, companions or even a Gond Hammer (BIS Workshop tool) from opening enough Gifts, but the Hammer comes from the OTHER guys gift to YOU (IIRC). Don’t open them on your own.

The parcels also contain random junk as well as a Gift of Simril. The junk can be:

      a) nothing but absolute junk, like Lanterns that look JUST like Simril Gifts and used by Scammers to steal your gifts. Well Done, Craptrick! Top marks there!
      b) junk blue gear for RP
      c) BtA Retraining Token
      d) 5 Scrolls of Life
      e) 5 or 10, I forget, Preservation Wards
      f) One Star of Fortune
      h) maybe some other stuff, but the best are the Scrolls of Life & Pres Wards. I never want to see another Retraining Token as long as I live!

      🙂
