Neverwinter’s New Module “The Heart of Fire” Brings Acquisitions Incorporated to the Protector’s Enclave

As expected Cryptic Studios used the PAX West to reveal their latest module release, “The Heart of Fire“. And it turns out that making the announcement part of the convention wasn’t an accident! Because Neverwinter will bring the popular and well-known adventuring brand “Acquisitions Incorporated” to the Protector’s Enclave! In case you need a little bit of context here: Penny Arcade, who runs the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), was founded by author Jerry Holkins and illustrator Mike Krahulik.

Both also are core members of the Acquisitions Incorporated D&D party that started as podcast in 2008, but now mainly runs shows on YouTube, Twitch, or live on stage at the PAX events. Other known members of the cast are author Patrick Rothfuss and D&D’s Chris Perkins, who is the mastermind behind most current official story lines.

Acquisitions Incorporated Are Coming to Town (Again)

It’s not the first time the game has teamed up with Chris Perkins and the Acquisitions Incorporated brand. He did voice acting for Volo and the “Day of the Dungeon Master” event was largely based on an adventure that Chris DM’d. Now the two franchises extend their collaboration as Acq Inc is about to set up a shop inside Protector’s Enclave. Omin Dran and company will get its own full story line (and maybe even a campaign).

This also concludes the small hints that we were getting since a few weeks. The building that currently gets renovated next to the Auction House is the one Acquisitions Incorporated will use. The only other known features so far are an overhaul of the professions system and a new skirmish.

Story-Centric and Comedic Module

It looks to be a story-centric and comedic module, which best theme comparison might actually be the “Day of the Dungeon Master” event. In terms of gameplay you’re probably looking towards the Underdark and Maze Engine module. Looking at the (probably very premature) feature list it certainly looks to be a relatively light release. A well done professions system however could of course be endless content in itself. So we’ll have to wait until the new module is patched to preview or dev blogs are released. For now, enjoy the attached pictures and trailer and let’s all get hyped up about “The Heart of Fire”!

Oh, and we’ll silently delete all mentions about Mod 15 absolutely being Waterdeep related. It kinda is because Acq Inc’s headquarters are there *cough* *cough*. But yeah seriously, looks like we were connecting some wrong dots the last weeks and are totally sor… Oh look, there’s a GREEN FLAME!!

I suspect we will still see something related to Dragon Heist. The mention of crime, Xanathar, and Waterdeep seems to fit too well. And I’m not sure the team can hold back from tying into the Dungeon of the Mad Mage either.

It’s an inside joke from the Acquisitions Incorporate live shows. Fans would collectively repeat the term whenever Chris Perkins said it on stage (often on purpose).

Just watch the twitch about the next mod, Jerry Holkins look like a very serious guy who know what he want, and Thomas Foss look like the guy who has to kick some devs ass to give Jerry what he expect for the Acquisitions Inc. based module. Jerry look ambitious about the presence of Acquisitions Inc. in Neverwinter for future content in the game. Time to real D&D content return has ring the bell.
