Neverwinter’s Year in Review: April to June

To start off 2019 we’d like to look back at the last year in Neverwinter. What were the highs, the lows, the disappointments, and the laughs? Join us in our journey through the months using our very own postings, continuing with April, March, and June today. January through March can be found here.

April: Omu on Consoles

April was the month in which the Neverwinter console population got their Omu update and could finally enjoy more of the jungle setting. PC in the meantime already set sails towards the next expansion as we were able to tie game assets to a Ravenloft update. The devs started leaking some info as well, like the change to enchantment visuals.

At the end of the month a PVP event resulted in many dead devs on the battlefield. On the blog we listed failed systems and design decisions and also discussed whether Stronghold Boons belong in there. Oh and we presented our “Pacifist Warlock” for the April Build Spotlight. It strangely never got consideration…

May: Community Divide

The game had to deal with some nasty Omu bugs in May. The Bile Drenched Scale, an essential item for the Chain of Scales, wasn’t properly dropping. So many players weren’t able to complete their chain. On top of that a 100$ charge reward mount got its bind status changed without any warning. Both issues were gladly resolved later in the month. Still not resolved until today is the ZAX backlog however, although we dished out ideas how to deal with the problem.

In terms of future updates there were two big stories in May. First of all Ravenloft got announced as next module. But it also became apparent that Neverwinter would tie into the next official story reveal of WotC during the so-called “Stream of the Many Eyes”.

The game’s community experienced some true high and lows during May. We showed what we are capable of by raising over $10,000 for the 22Kill Charity, but unfortunately failed to get through to the company with an open letter regarding a great divide in the playerbase. Until today this has only gotten worse and truly limits what we could be doing as community.

June: Anniversary & Waterdeep

The start of June was dominated by the Stream of the Many Eyes. Dragon Heist brings players to Waterdeep, which immediately started the rumor mill of the iconic destination making it into the game at some point as well. It hasn’t so far, but we believe it definitely will.

Making it to the game however was the Ravenloft release on PC. The implementation of the highly popular D&D campaign setting was a huge success, and paired with the massive five year anniversary June can probably be considered the biggest month in 2018.
