Neverwinter’s Year in Review: January to March

To start off 2019 we’d like to look back at the last year in Neverwinter. What were the highs, the lows, the disappointments, and the laughs? Join us in our journey through the months using our very own postings, starting with January, February and March today. Other months: April to June.

January

2018 started off strong with new content for players across all platforms. Consoles got their Swords of Chult release while the PC crowd got a first glimpse of the new Omu features on the preview server. The devs in the meantime recapped 2017 with a “State of the Game” stream and promised more support for content creators. Yeah, still waiting for that…

What did come to fruition however were the announced changes to lockboxes, although not everyone was too pleased when it got revealed later throughout the year. 2018 was also the year in which lockboxes became even more of a general MMO topic. Several countries legally tried to restrict them and it soon became evident that the system might not be around for much longer.

Also not around was posting maniac beckylunatic. The longtime player and well-respected member of the community disappeared and later stated she would not come back to the game. On a more positive community related note, Relentless became the first maxed alliance on PC!

February

In February the devs answered community questions during a Reddit AMA and on the blog we pondered about whether or not endgame players should be heard when it comes to game design decision. For PWE it was a turbulent month with the shutdown of Gigantic and them landing a hit in Subnautica. Neverwinter’s PC population in the meantime could finally enjoy Omu on the live server.

March

With Module 13 in full flow, we dished out our usual amount of guides for the latest content addition while also keeping the Toolbase up to date. Omu wasn’t without flaws however as players could avoid the hardest mechanic in Cradle by relogging. On the blog we additionally focused on delivering a steady diet of opinions and analysis. We criticized the Adventurer’s Pack, looked back at the disaster that was Elemental Evil, and asked for more CM/Dev events.

And because Neverwinter never stands still, there were already the first hints at some changes in Module 14.
