Patch Note Parser: NW.105.20181121b.10 – The Charcoal Nerf & Promised Race Pack Upgrades

Neverwinter Uncensored’s patch note parser runs through any bigger patch notes and offers additional context to the changes that were made to the game. Today we are taking a quick look at version NW.105.20181121b.10, which nerfs Charcoal in Module 15 and carries out the promised race pack upgrades for former buyers.

[su_quote]Level 32 profession tools can no longer be purchased from the Profession Supplies merchant.[/su_quote]

We start with a note that we can’t quite make sense of. The basic vendor sold three versions of each tools and the best ones are now no longer available. We’re not sure whether this aims at making leveling a tad more difficult or extending the market for tools. Either way, this feels random.

*** UPDATE *** The level 32 “Steel” tools could be traded for South Sea Trading Company Credit and with that presented a too easy way of upgrading Workshops.

[su_quote]The Winter Event mount, Twilight Yeti, has had its insignia slots changed to 1x Crescent and 2x Enlightened. It now has access to the insignia bonus, “Barbarian’s Revelry.”[/su_quote]

The good news is: The Yeti now has access to an insignia bonus. The bad news: It’s not a new one. We probably put too much weight on some wording, but our impression was that an insignia bonus would eventually match the slots of the mount. Instead, the slots now get altered to match one of the old bonuses.

[su_quote]Certain Companion gear reward packs no longer incorrectly claim that the player has received a Legendary quality reward when they’ve received one at Rare quality.[/su_quote]

This hasn’t been a major, but definitely a funny bug. Some boxes claimed to have dropped a legendary reward when it in fact was blue. Sorry to those that got excited for a sec. Rewards were always correct, it was just a visual bug.

The Charcoal Nerf

[su_quote]Charcoal is now worth 1 Guild Mark / Profession Resources credit per 5 Charcoal donated, reduced from 16 Guild Marks per 1 Charcoal donated.[/su_quote]

Here comes the Charcoal nerf! Many probably already assumed that the item would be changed after we reported how Charcoal is basically able to generate Gold and Guild Marks for free going from M14 to M15. There were several ways to handle the issue and the devs took one of the easier routes in just nerfing (or fixing) the Guild Mark gain. Before you start raging too much, stocking up Charcoal still makes sense, it’s just no longer as effective.

Before the nerf, you could turn one Guild Mark into 800 (!) with buying Charcoal in M14 at the Bloomery and feeding it into coffers in M15. Now it’s a “moderate” 1:10 ratio. For every Guild Mark invested into Charcoal you get ten back in M15. Not bad, right? The item is also still able to multiply your gold. Charcoal costs 30 Silver at vendors in M14 and sells for 70 in M15.

Devs Deliver Promised Pack Upgrades

[su_quote]The Dragonborn Legend Pack reclaim (from the Reward Claims Agent) now includes a mount and companion.[/su_quote]

The promised pack upgrades for former buyers of the reworked race and founder’s packs are also delivered with the patch. If you want to catch up what this is all about, you can read the story here and here.

I picked up some Charcoal on the gamble that prices wouldn’t get adjusted … and I’m fine with the nerf. Hand a stack in during 2X for 1998 guild marks. Wait for a 20% off to buy your scrolls. … Still seems like a no-brainer investment.

I wonder, did j0SHi get millions upon millions of Guild Marks from the charcoal bug before he blogged about it? Well, it’s been fixed now.

    1) I know people who bought Steel tools and traded them on the days Begum asked for tools. This cost a lot of gold and took ages. Stopping this is a little mean. Will it be Retainer reagents next? As you were ranking up professions from scratch, you could trade some ranks of old tools for South Sea Credits. Now, people are just stuck with bound junk.

    2) I only bought a few Twilight Yetis, but I have “Barbarian’s Revelry.” on several mounts already, so shame about that. It’s just a cosmetic skin now, no unique Insignia bonus. But it’s better than having two sets of insignia slots linked to a single bonus, like they did with that blue mount they gave away.

    3) I never saw a Legendary result notification on a Rare or Epic drop, so this is news to me!

    4) Hmm. Within days of j0SHi blogging about the charcoal bug, it’s fixed. 1 Guild Mark per 5 instead of 80 per 5? But does it sell for 70 silver or 70 copper? I have about 15-20,000 Charcoal on my characters, but could do nothing as the Mimic was maxed out.

    5) YAY! for the Dragonborn Legendary Pack update! See? Not everything j0SHi blogs about results in a nerf!

    🙂

Ha! I wished I knew about this a lot earlier to be honest. I had some stacks of Charcoal on characters anyway, but didn’t specifically buy them up in M14. Honestly, most critical stuff is posted as soon as we get the information.

It’s weird, as the rare Charcoal sells for more copper than the epic Ebony Log! There are a few other things where they got the prices messed up. I wrote them on a scrap of paper but I may have “tidied it away”.

You may remember I hated the very idea of the new Professions back in Mod 14, but I really like it now. But it would be so much better if it was properly finished before release. They keep blocking things that are beneficial to the player, but the bad bugs are still in there. I have an absolute ton of Epic Worn Mithral Alchemy gear that is still only worth ONE Asset exchange Credit instead of 5,000.

        🙁

But the Star of Simril companion has not been fixed? It still won’t take rings in its 3 ring slots and the Active Bonus does absolutely nothing at all?

Ah well, I shall see in a moment!
