Players Can Look Forward to a New Call-to-Arms Season Format in 2019

Call-to-Arms is one of those events that is in dire need of an update. The original idea was to give player a chance to get into the leveling skirmishes in a time-limited format. It was kinda neat at that time, both for the enjoyment of the community and to give otherwise dead content additional purpose, but CtA hasn’t aged well. The main rewards, unique Companions and new Enchantments, are either useless or not longer hard to get. Luckily the devs chose to make events one of their main points in Module 15. During our extensive preview of the Neverwinter Heart of Fire module, we already hinted that the Call-to-Arms format is on the list of events that will receive an update.

With the latest patch on PC, players can now get a sneak peek into what’s coming for CtA in 2019. On Jan 24th, the calendar lists a new “season” that spans over multiple CtA events and comes with unique rewards. Apparently players will be able to earn up to three tokens per event for which they can buy time-limited goods. As the description states, the rewards will only be available “this season” and will be replaced with new rewards “next season”. It’s not mentioned how long a season lasts, but we assume it’ll be the whole year.

Time-Limited Rewards

Time-limited rewards are a new thing in Module 15. Originally suggested on Unblogged, the devs picked up the idea for the game to give otherwise outdated events a little more appeal again. Many events now feature rewards that you might only get during a specific period of time, or even only on one specific occasion. If you don’t participate, you miss out. Many of the rewards we’ve seen are cosmetic or only come with bragging rights, but the Call-to-Arms event features gameplay relevant items like a purple Mount, Astral Diamonds, and Artifact Weapons.

The weapons start at item level 475 and we would think their progression matches the one of the Module 12 weapons. It means they should end up with 520 on legendary quality. That’s not as good as current “bis”, but hard to complain about as basically free grab from the Call-to-Arms format. It’s probably something you want to look into for alternate characters and such. The weapons by the way do not feature a set bonus yet. We’re not sure whether this is intended or something that will change as we approach January 24th.

Something to Look Forward To

The new rewards are nice, but as long as the whole thing remains just an easy and repetitive encounter, are just a temporary solution. That’s why we’d like to see more substantial changes going forward. But it’s indeed good to see that CtA for now might offer players some viable rewards again.

+1600 Armor Pen on the epic mount – was that screenshot taken in a level-reduced zone? Or have the stats been delberately lowered, because hey, free mount…?

It might be the stats at character level 60?

Yup, our bad. It’s the usual 2,000 at level 70.

Even though I appreciate that they’re updating old features, it is a bummer nevertheless that there will be more stuff to miss out on. It may create a situation in which every weekend there is something to miss out on.

As all my Alts have a full set of BtA Primal gear, is it really worth farming these new events? I mean, the time and trouble of doing it. It’s not like Mod 2 Orc Assault where a weekend of insomnia farming got me thousands of medals to trade for a truck load of enchants, and companions dropping that were worth having back then,

It probably depends how much you need to farm for the weapons. It spanning over multiple events would suggest that you probably won’t get it after one weekend. But yeah, CtA will remain dull even with new rewards.

The Yeti Mount I think replaces the sled as a reward for buying with the currency.

With the state of power creep I’m sure these will be just as “fun” as the siege.

“Originally suggested on Unblogged, the devs picked up the idea”

You guys really need to stop tooting your own horn. Ideas are a dime a dozen. It is, by far, the easiest part and the least consideration required.

That quote included a wink. Don’t take it too serious 🙂 That said though, if it was that common of an idea, you should be able to quote multiple sources that suggested it, shouldn’t you? Wink!
