RAD Economy Changes Might Not Be a Nerf After All?

[blog_subscription_form]

The economy changes of “Heart of Fire” have been one of the more hot-ish topics of the module. Most players perceived it as nerf to their earnings or at least playstyle. Additionally it made sense to assume a nerf here based on the past. The devs are usually pretty boring when it comes to fighting a broken economy. They always seem to take RAD away from players. Add that the devs even stated themselves that they don’t expect everyone to make the same amounts and you probably get why we reported it as nerf.

Fast forward three weeks into the module however, it feels like it’s somehow not that bad? Some sessions into the new module I personally even have an easier time getting to those RAD caps than before. On our Monday poll we mentioned that we really wanted some data on your RAD earn rates in comparison to Module 14 values, because it’s certainly interesting whether you experience the same results.

Are the New Chests Better Than Expected?

[sc name=”discord”]

The weird thing about my own daily routine is that I’m not even specifically farming RADs. I just run my randoms each session (leveling, normal, advanced), a couple extra dungeons that I pick up in my alliance or private channels, and weeklies on multiple alts. That way RADs seem to flow in constantly, and I’m getting the former Salvage pieces on top of it. Of course you can no longer exchange them for additional RADs, but can still either turn them into Gold, Guild Marks, or Salvage. Overall I’d even go as far as saying that I’m netting slightly more than before.

I would love to point out what I think is the difference for me, but in the end I guess the new chests, more specifically the amount of RAD they drop, are better than expected? All I can say that I’m trying to run a daily Demogorgon and Folly on alts or in case they don’t appear in my randoms on my main. And then of course the usual TONG and Cradle farm. I guess dungeons like Demo or Folly are indeed good examples of content that got a slight bump in terms of RAD. Those either didn’t have guaranteed Salvage (Folly) or blue gear with low values (Demo). Now you always get decent RADs, especially thanks to those re-rolls.

Results Biased Because of Re-Rolls?

Speaking of re-rolls. I definitely wouldn’t rule out that the current results are a bit biased because I pretty much use them until I either get a good item or a decent RAD amount. So I definitely think a full evaluation doesn’t make sense before we’ve all run out of re-rolls and have to live with whatever contents the chests hand out. It could also absolutely be that my personal style of play simply isn’t as much affected by the changes. Anyway, as of right now, the system is working nicely for me just doing daily stuff and a few extra dungeons. I’m actually mildly surprised and it’s definitely something I will monitor throughout the next weeks and months.

Of course it’s biased due to re-rolls, and of course it’s neither better nor worse if you are maxing the 100k cap, same as before. But how many rAD do you have on the account that can’t be refined? I know that for me much of that unrefinable rAD is now RP.

I made two new characters for the Runic bag event and went through Master of the Hunt for the +8% XP cloak that I can slot a rank 11 Azure into Utility.

First character, went through a few times and used the re-roll tokens 4 times each time, got the cloak and gave it to the other character. A few days later, I went though again and got it on first re-roll with the Bramble key chest.

Previously, I had to run through the entire thing and had ONE chance at the chest, and sometimes it took HOURS to get the cloak. So of course the re-rolls has improved that aspect for me. I did often end up with worse AD and no Black Opal, of course. But i got my XP bonus cloak.

Another thing I noticed was that running a leveling Queue on one of these characters, I got about 13k rAD, and then about 6k, 6k, 6k. So that is more ROUGH than before (for the run plus the chest), but it’s still going to be 100k per day refined.

Like most things, it’s never as bad as people think it might be. Remember Strongholds? Lots of people thought they would have to guard their castle 24/7 to stop PvP Guilds crashing and and trashing the place!

    Nope! 😀

Personally, I HATED the idea of the new professions and had no idea who AI were. But now that I’ve started it, I find that the new Professions AND the new campaign is quite fun.

There’s probably a lot of OCD and high-functioning Spectrum Disorder in MMOs, and many people hate change and fear the unknown at the best of times. But I was wrong, I actually like Mod 15 so far.

Of course, I’ve only been doing it for a few days, and people who dived in head first on day 1 are telling me

“Sure! It IS quite fun – for the first ten days!”

    🙂

Obviously, the re-rolls will be nerfed, just like artifacts, mounts, companions and epic gear dropping in dungeons was nerfed.

The aspect I don’t like is that it has returned to again be all about the dungeons. Just before this change it had finally become flexible, because salvage dropped in so many ways. Hunts, of course, but also HEs and other types of play could grant salvage, and the dungeons you did run could drop savage so you supplemented and didn’t need more dungeons. I’ve never been a huge fan of the low story aspect of dungeons (and the pace at which we run through them), so the current state is not great for me. The last thing I want to do in this game is do dungeon runs, and that’s pretty much what I have to do each and every day, and I have to run more than four of them on most days. Ugh.

I’m hoarding my rerolls for when everyone else runs out :p

Why would someone play a Dungeons and Dragons game and not like running Dungeons? I mean all of the campaigns the quests are all time gates for running Dungeons. My suggestion would be to find another game or level your character to 70, delete it and then do it all over again.

btw its hard to say if or how much less RAD I’m earning in game really. I hoarded my epic loot for a dream of 2xAD reappearing that never did. I can say that my routine has not changed and I still hit the RAD cap daily. That being running weekly’s on 7 toons and 3 dungeons a day. That seems reasonable to me so I’m not upset or concerned. Further to that since RAD is not my primary source of in game income I find it much less threatening than those who are reliant on RAD income for progression.
