Russian Drider Server Bans MoF Smolder/Rimefire Stacking

Well guys this seems to be a serious case of different countries, different customs. As we’ve learned last week the Russian Drider server has banned Smolder/Rimefire stacking from PVP. Using it is an official offense and can lead to a suspension. Rimefire is designed to refresh Smolder by Chill effects, a bug however let’s players stack both powers under certain circumstances for twice the intended debuff.

Owlbear Cub was banned as well

To put this into perspective you need to know that the Russian community puts a much stronger emphasis on player versus players content. In June administration banned the Owlbear Cub and currently you are also not allowed to zone out of a PVP match using the VIP signpost. So the latest announcement is actually in line of how the Russian server operates.

The items and powers banned seem to be weirdly selective though. If you wanted to ban all the broken and overpowered stuff you’d have quite a list. Specifically Drains would be a logical thing to forbid. Those however are technically working as intended and it seems the Russian administration is only targeting obviously bugged stuff. Still doesn’t make tons of sense unless there’s more to Smolder and Rimefire stacking than we currently know. Compared to other things it’s just not as big of an issue to make such a fuss about it.

Russian Theorycrafting

Anyway, it’s interesting to see how other communities handle certain issues. Since we’re speaking about the Russian Driver Server we’d also like to make you aware that the folks there have a very active community and are frequently publishing interesting theorycrafting and articles. So it might be worth to paste their forum into google translate every now and then and see what they are up to (links provided by Sharpedge):

It’s the second to last post in the thread. The announcement is not about players getting banned, only the use of Smolder/Rimefire stacking.

It has never been a matter of banning or allowing the powers… What the devs fail to understand is that the game needs a complete power overhaul, for most classes, they’ve been tweaking and fixing here and there, and most of them got broken ages ago and are beyond saving… Same goes for crap you’d never EVER consider using on any build… There’s just too much useless crap in that powers page… They should just plain remove some of them altogether and replace them for viable shit you could actually take advantage of…

Banning something they’ve made themselves is just patching the whole in the boat with a rag… Eventually its gonna burst open again… Half a solution is a solution, for them, it seems…
