As frequent reader of our site you probably know that Fangbreaker Island is the subject of several glitches that bug and one-shot bosses or let player re-enter fights. After at least fixing the Portobello glitch on PC last week, it looks like the devs might need to turn their attention to Spellplague Caverns. A video posted by “Neverwinter KINGS” and reported by our user “dyukiller” claims that the second boss inside the dungeon can be disabled.
So you can turn the most frantic fight that requires steady footing and quick reflexes into a full stop? Oh the irony! Apparently it’s as easy using certain abilities that hand out control effects the boss should actually be immune to. The video states the Arcane Whirlwind, but on our forum the CWs “Maelstrom of Chaos” was mentioned as well.
It seems this is a reoccurrence of a rather old bug. Multiple times through the years players could get dragons into a stuck state by using control powers. Some bosses can’t recover from CC because they shouldn’t have been disabled in the first place. The first time this happened was within the original Castle Never, but continued to occur as new items and content got released. The culprits included Sun Burst, Arms of Hadar as well as the Paranoid Delusion and Manticore companion. It could very well be that some of those are now also working in the Spellplague Caverns.
More annoying this time
While we classified the FBI issues as non-gamebreaking, this one is a tad more annoying if you like legit gameplay. The second boss is a true skill check and for most groups means making or breaking the dungeon. Nostura as “end boss” is far less challenging. It can be expected that more and more parties are going to exploit this, at least if they feel beating the boss through multiple wipes is taking a bit too long.
