The other day on Discord a private message window popped up in which a reader congratulated me for accurately forecasting the upcoming Workshop system in Module 15. I was confused at first, but quickly realized that he was right, but that I wasn’t the one to praise. You certainly know that professions have been a mess for a while now. Naturally over the years, a few articles popped up on Unblogged with suggestions how to improve the system. One of those was a three-part write-up by former Unblogged regular MinMax, who has long moved on to killing pugs in WarZone. We miss you bud!
Looking back through the suggestions that he made in May 2017, the similarities are jaw-dropping:
- Merge some professions? Check!
- Name one of them Blacksmithing? Check!
- Workshops? Check!
- Maximum of three tasks at once? Check!
- Make Gold an integral part of the costs? Check!
- Auto-crafting until you run out of resources? Check!

I have to admit I forgot about this article series, but as I was re-visiting the posts I got more and more convinced that this had to be one of the key influences when the devs were starting to plan the new Workshop system. It’s just too obvious. I mean, not all of MinMax’s ideas (like the mini-games) made it into the final system and it could very well be coincidence. Much stuff that got changed simply makes sense, and it doesn’t need Unblogged to lead the way. But no matter whether it was just a very accurate prediction or indeed an important starting point, kudos to MinMax!
On top of already correctly predicting yearly rewards from events, it’s a nice acknowledgment of the work we do around here. Especially since the site doesn’t officially exist *wink* *wink*.
Mini-Games Still to Come?
It could get even more crazy by the way, because the idea of mini-games could still make it into professions. The devs way back stated they are looking into an anti-botting measure for profession nodes that requires players to solve small puzzles when looting them. A similar system is in place in Star Trek Online. Right now it doesn’t seem to be a priority for the devs, but MinMax being 100% accurate (sort of) shouldn’t be ruled out just yet!
