Quality of Life vs. Content Additions

As mid-module update, Swords of Chult is setting a focus on quality of life upgrades. With that, the game continues its latest approach of going back and forth between content updates and bugfixing / QoL.

As nice as some of the features look, endgame PVE players might run into a nasty content drought going forward. The Merchant Prince’s Folly skirmish is the only relevant addition and it’s still at least three months until Module 13. Here are the time spans between mod-module updates and the next modules so far:

  • Maze Engine: Alliances to Storm Kings Thunder: 10 weeks
  • Sea of Moving Ice to Cloaked Ascendancy: 15 weeks
  • Shroud of Souls to Tomb of Annihilation: 12 weeks

This means players are stuck doing Hunts and the Tomb of the Nine Gods for the foreseeable future. And once all gear is acquired, there’s little else to do. That’s the usual trade-off the devs have been talking about in the past. If they work on those bugs and quality of life features, new content takes a back seat.

It’s hard to complain though. Players have been lobbying to put a bit more emphasis on fixing and reworking stuff instead of just adding content. It might also open up time to bring up another class you always wanted to try. Managing alts becomes more and more comfortable anyway. And what about PVP? The changes could finally bring back the Neverwinter Combat League and significant rewards. A competitive PVP mode wouldn’t be the worst thing either.

TNG is getting extra drops (the superior enchantment stones for rank 14 enchants) that will make it a destination dungeon, people might get bored of TNG but there will be lots of reason to run it.

It would have been nice mod, but Random Queue change change really ruins it. AD income for low geared characters and alts is practically halved. Bonding changes are also a bit questionable.
