The Lowbie Diaries Vol. 47: RIP

Lowbie Diaries BannerWelcome to a project, experiment, challenge or whatever you wanna call it. Normally experiencing the content with well-geared toons, I figured it would be quite interesting to approach the game from the perspective of a casual player. How does it feel starting from scratch and build up a character without the help of your mains? How long does it take until you are geared enough for the latest endgame content? Welcome to the Lowbie Diaries, it should be fun!

Today I’d like to officially end the Lowbie Diaries. It might have been obvious anyway since the last article in the series is from like 1998, but still wanted to get an official goodbye post out. The reason for the shutdown is fairly simple. I can no longer maintain a lowbie character on top of all the other stuff surrounding the site. When you really have to talk yourself into logging into the account, it’s time to call it. Uncensored works because we have fun doing it. The Lowbie Diaries unfortunately no longer were, although I’m still very much intrigued by the approach.

Goodbye to One of the Original Columns

This shouldn’t discount what the series meant for the site however. It’s one of the original columns and very much helped Uncensored to grow into what it is today. Not only did it provide content early on, it also helped me personally to get back into the game when I had lost motivation. I started participating in the site because I play Neverwinter, but that honestly changed to the opposite over time. And the Lowbie Diaries are an early example. Back in the day, I had tons of fun exploring content based on my “experimental” approach that I otherwise would have gladly dodged.

I’d also like to touch on some of the issues of the project in hindsight. There have always been those that claimed that I never genuinely played as a true lowbie or casual. First of all, people have different expectations and experiences and you can’t please everyone. But on top of that I always tried to give you the most accurate representation of the lowbie life. That doesn’t mean I always nailed it, but I certainly didn’t try to take artificial shortcuts either.

It Will Be Back, Maybe?

As mentioned above I still like the approach and might revisit it at a certain point as time-limited challenge. But for now, it’s so long Lowbie Diaries. Thanks to what you provided and meant to the site. Also thanks to everyone who found the column interesting, shared their own struggles, and provided hints and suggestions.

Cheers!

It’s sad to see it go, even though most of the time it’s just for fun but it also provide new players a decent guide starting out INTELLIGENTLY! Plus, Ravenloft has been, by far, one of the most newbie friendly mod since ages ago. But it’s understandable with how this site has expanded that there’s so much more needed to be handled now – and what I always tell my guildies is that – a game should be fun! If it’s no longer so, it’s time to reflect. Thanks for all the ride anyways o/
