Tomb of Annihilation Preview: Merchant Prince Lockbox

After our general datamining update yesterday, we are going to preview the new lockbox of module 12 today. It’s called “Merchant Prince Lockbox” and not only gives players a shot at riding a Dinosaur Mount, but also features enhancements to the line of blue drops.

Tyrannosaur Mounts

Let’s get to the most important and cool stuff first, and that’s most certainly the Tyrannosaur Mounts. The lockbox features three, one purple “Cavalry” and two legendary ones, “Warpainted” and “Commander”. The two legendary come in a choice pack and you can pick the one you like. It’s only the look, both feature the same Combat and Equip Power. A “Tamed Velociraptor”, which has an appealing Active Bonus in case all members of the group own one, completes the line of rare drops.

More Stuff From Blue Drops

While the Tyrannosaurs are cool and all, most players will probably never get a hand on those due to the drop rates. So you’ll probably be pleased to hear that the blue packs are also enhanced. Pretty much all green drops are gone and the contents generally were upped. The Artifact Equipment Pack for example now drops more Marks and RPs, the Companion Pack no longer Rank 7s (which sadly is actually a slight nerf to RP). The Stronghold Pack comes with four Vouchers instead of 2-3 and the Mount Pack drops the full range of Insignias.

When I tested the drops using the Glorious Resurgence Lockbox, some packs unfortunately were still bugged. The Stronghold Pack’s tooltip is wrong for example, it actually drops two vouchers instead of the stated one. Also the tiger mounts were bound to character and the epic ones didn’t even have any Equip Power or Insignia Slots. The devs will hopefully be able to resolve this before the final build.

Enchantment Pack features Wards

The most eye-catching change is the one to the Enchantment Pack, which features Wards. I wouldn’t get too excited though as I was unable to get a Coal to drop in 150 packs. The Preservations are still a nice bonus as most players probably struggle with Wards more than RPs at this point. Together with the inclusion of the popular Feytouched Enchantment this should definitely be a strong Enchantment Pack.

So what are we talking about with ‘low’ Legendary Mount drop rates? 1 in 1000 or worse?

The last lockboxes were 1:650, older ones 1:2000
