Tomb of Annihilation Preview: Upcoming Premium ZEN Items and Datamining Update

On Uncensored we start off the week before the “Tomb of Annihilation” release with a look at the new premium items that are going to hit the players. Compared to other modules it seems to be relatively quiet in terms of overall additions, a few things will still raise some eyebrows. So without further ado, let’s see what we were able to dig up.

Pilgrim Set

You might already know the Pilgrim armor set from our preview of low end gear sets. It’s the premium gear addition in the module and can be bought from Trade Bars (arms & body) and the ZEN store (feet & head). Currently we were only able to find out how the head pieces are being marketed. They come as bundle with Enchanted Keys. Based on similar promotions in the past it means they should pop up on the AH for a reasonable price.

Winter Event Holiday Charge Promo

As little sneak peek into what awaits us in the future, Tomb of Annihilation already hints at a special Winter Holiday Charge Promo. We assume the structure is close to what PWE did this summer. There are icons for a Winter Commoners Fashion set and a Snowclad Manticore is in the collection. The latter is specifically labeled as promotional item.

The Winter Festival is apparently also going to introduce more sleds. Because who is not liking those, right?

WizKids Promotion

As you might have noticed Neverwinter has started to advertise other companies that belong to the D&D family. Collectible miniature maker WizKids is one of those and it looks like they’ll be doing some sort of cross-company promotion. Some icons indicate players will be able to claim packs and special titles. Could be codes that you obtain by buying WizKids products or something like that.

*** UPDATE *** Our readers pointed out in the comments that the promotion is already announced! Thanks guys!

Mounts & Companions

Outside the new lockbox the module currently doesn’t seem to add a whole new lot of mounts and companions. We were able to dig up active powers for a T-Rex and Deinonychus Companion, but both are not (yet) in the game.

There is the usual companion that enhances the campaign currency earn rates however. It’s called “Chultan Hunter” and increases drops by 10%.

Campaign Unlock Tokens, Power Points, Leveling Service

Probably the most interesting aspect in terms of the ZEN store is the extension of the existing services that enhance character advancement. Tomb of Annihilation adds single unlock tokens for all current campaigns, even Chult, and a new bundle with all available tokens. We don’t believe all of this is released right at the start, but at least the icons and such are already in the game. Next to the known full unlocks we found hints that another type of lower tier boost is added. So called “Patron Marker” exist for every campaign and some users suggested they might double the campaign currencies. More campaign boosts could also mean that we are going to see Double Events for campaigns later than Tyranny of Dragons.

But hold on, there’s more. The Elemental Evil campaign either comes as full buyout, or as full buyout and what we assume is a level 70 boost. Players are also going to be able to buy level increases, power points and a smaller version of the Companion Upgrade Token Pack. Overall the mod clearly adds the possibility to invest ZEN in more specific areas. Currently a true level 70 boost for example is only available in the Knox’s Recruitment Order package, in Tomb of Annihilation those can be bought separately.

Another interesting topic of these changes is the pricing. With Knox’s Recruitment Order selling at 5,000 ZEN, you probably can’t price the Elemental Evil unlock at the usual 4,000. It’s simply way too much compared to the additional stuff in the Recruitment Order package. So I would think the EE unlock should be closer to 3,000, and maybe this also means a general price reduction for all the other campaign boosts. It would certainly make sense as they’ve always felt a bit too expensive. But that’s pure speculation at this point.

*** UPDATE *** Turns out the new boosts are already mentioned in the rolling patch notes on the forum. Tomb of Annihilation will come with Elemental Evil, Maze Engine and Storm Kings Thunder unlocks and “updated prices”.

On the WizKids side, this seems to be a return of something they did a while back. WizKids makes collectible miniatures in random packs for the D&D tabletop game. The first set had codes inside each box, which could unlock all sorts of stuff. It was usually potions and the like, but also Troves of Elemental Evil and I even picked up the Nightmare mount. There were a few bugs, and it took me some work with customer support to resolve some of them. Perhaps because of that, no sets since that time have included codes. However, the advertising for the upcoming minis set again says that a code is in every sealed box!

I think they are doing that right now, I got a code from a guy that just recently bought some miniatures, and he got codes for NWO in those packs.
