Unblogged Wisdom Checks: Do You Utilize x2 Events Consistently?

Double Events play an important role in Neverwinter’s progression system. In a game that stalls advancement in many areas, getting twice as much of something can be pretty significant. Players swarm dungeons in Double Seal events, save up Enchantment Packs to open them during Double Enchantments and Runestones, or level their alternate characters during Double Experience weekends. It’s such a vital part of the game that some even think it’s the intended speed of progression. Meaning the events don’t technically double stuff, but everything is just halved by default.

Anyway, x2 events are normally profitable, but only happen so often. Which brings us to our titular question: Do you farm and utilize those events consistently when they’re up? Selected ones? Never?

I’ll save leadership chests, xp rewards, and invoking chests for double refine stone drop events, but I’m generally not chasing for anything else besides that. Maybe the two remaining characters without leadership 25 if / when double profession xp comes up, but even then, it’s not a huge deal to me.

    Another poorly designed survey?

Double Currency events I farm on characters that need the currencies for Boons.

Sometimes, I also farm on characters that do not need the boons but I want to make some SH Vouchers. I have special keys coming out of my ears.

Tyranny/Well of Dragons I may also farm with characters close to getting enough currencies to buy a Haarl’s Treatise, whether they need the boons or not, whether it’s 2x WoD or not. I usually collect any available daily quests and stack them up.

Double Influence I farm as much as possible.

Double Guild Marks is when I turn in my SH vouchers, Influence etc.

Double Enchants & Runes is when I open my saved up Invoking Bags, Leadership Bags and Celestial Coffers.

Double Glory might as well be “Double Tin Foil Hats” as far as I am concerned. 🙂

Double XP Events, I often wish we could opt out of on new characters. Sometimes, I want to play the entire Main Quest, in order, without hitting level 70 in Velosk or somewhere.

My latest character was level 66 and had just started doing Sharandar, got a level from that, did a Random Skirmish (hoping for Master of the Hunt) and got Illusionist’s Gambit instead and hit level 70 just from that! One round only. 3:2 voted to quit.

On level 70s, Double XP is fine. With 88% to 124% XP Bonus from Mount Prosperity Insignia and “Invoking Gear” (level 50 greens from Seven Suns Coster Market) with rank 7 Azures, they get a level-up almost every single day anyway, which is great for the 45k AD and Power Points.

But I do not want that on characters I am trying to play up from scratch, as they do not get those post-70 level up rewards. They just out-level the content FAR too quickly, even without 2x XP, no Prosperity Insignia and no Utility Azures. They always did.

Looks like you should go with “I farm selected ones” 😀

I do quite a bit for certain 2x events. In particular RP, Seals, Influence, Shards, XP, Guild Marks and Prof’s XP. Whenever there’s a 2x currency event of any kind I just wait to do that area’s weekly until the event and if I’m able to, complete it again after weekly reset before the event closes. Though with 2x ToD I do a run a bit more Heralds than usual because the coins add up quickly and they’re great for coffer donations at 2x GM.

2x TOD, XP, RP stones and seals are what I go after the most but I don’t plan ahead and even when the event is on, I forget most of the time to take advantage of it. I know there will always be another after some time. I think they are great events even if I don’t do them most of the time.

Oh yes, I forgot 2x Professions XP.

I do not specifically farm Nodes etc during the event, although it’s nice to get 2x Elemental Earth, Air, Fire and Water from nodes in the Lairs that I am running anyway. Occasionally, aggregates and unified elements (VERY rare for that one).

But I do specifically wait and use 2x Prof. XP for unlocking Rank IV and V of the Black Ice Forge as it costs half the normal Unified Elements. I have one character with Rank 25 in everything who functions as my Grand Master Alchemist, so he can churn out Elemental Aggregates, Unified Elements, Aqua Regia or whatever else a new character needs for unlocking Alchemy etc.

Shame that since Patch NW.5.20130812b.8 my Alts cannot put Professions reagents and resources in my Shared Bank! I hate using the Mail system. SO slow and tedious.

You only need Rank V of Black Ice Shaping on one character per class, and what I really like about it is that most of the gear (EG Elemental Drowcraft) is BtA and remains BtA when upgraded and equipped, so Alts can be played again. Just do not transmute it or use an Overload Enchant.

Of course, by the time I did that on the 7th and 8th class, Ostorian Relic Gear was available for Seals anyway. But, for some classes, a lack of ArPen on the Ostorian gear can be covered by one or two pieces of Elemental Drowcraft.

Much better gear is now available in Chult etc, but it’s not needed on Alts getting Boons up to Maze Engine. And I have more than enough BtA Underdark +4 rings and a +5 ring I can share with Alts, plus BtA Rings of Dod etc for their companions.

Like most people, I was hoping that the “ALL NEW Revamped Professions!” (TM) was going to fix the inconsistencies in crafting and Leadership, add new items to Weapon, Plate, Mail, Leather, Tailoring and Black Ice Shaping etc and make them more worthwhile doing. But, no, we got a new level of Stronghold Meisterwerk Crafting most of can never access.

    🙁

Yeah, the annoying thing about this blog forum (and MMO Minds) is that, once posted, an error can’t be corrected!

    DOH!
