Unblogged Wisdom Checks: What Double Currency Event Would You Farm the Most?

Double currency events are great to catch up with some older campaigns or farm for your guild or personal Guild Mark stock. But not all events are equally easy to grind or profitable. Underdark for example dishes out uncapped currency and players can pretty much farm as much as they like. Other campaigns are limited by the amount of daily quests and some are not included in the format at all. That’s why we want to know in this week’s poll which double currency event you (would) farm the most. We purposely omitted the latest campaigns because even if the devs decide to extend the format at some point, those are unlikely to be included.

Does the Double Currency event even apply to Maze Engine, Storm Kings Thunder and Cloaked Ascendancy?

I usually farm them all (from Sharandar to Underdark), depending on time available and number of Alts that need them. I usually go for the campaign that I need on Alts, as I want my army of Crafters and Influence Miners to have boons up to at least Underdark. But that damned Spelunking never drops!

But I voted Tyranny/Well of Dragons. Some Alts have enough Linus from the days when we needed 80 rather than 15 or whatever it is now, but they lack the Pages of Arcane Lore, of course! Normally, there are only 2 or 3 Instances in WoD these days, but more people seem to flock there for 5 or 6 open Instances for the Dragon Runs during 2xRP and Double Currencies, and Tiamat pops more often from the Random Queue (I might as well get AD as well!) It’s not quite the glory days of 15 to 20 Instances and 14 or 15 Draconic Heralds, but it goes just as fast now as even the Noobest of the Noobs have Vistani gear and an Epic mount.

Maze Engine I started on two, IIRC. It was fine at first, for the actual story part, but all those Step and Fetch dailies were so boring I couldn’t be bothered completing it.

Storm Kings Thunder, I went there on one soon after release, and saw why people complained about Screen Glare and Eye Strain, and decided to leave it. I’ve only been back in the Random Queues. I have some Campaign completion packs from the 40% Sale, and can sell those I don’t need.

Cloaked Ascendancy, hmm. Is that River District or City of Omu? Or is Omu actually Chult? I get confused! But I made two new characters for the Recruitment Event, and I like the zone with the Temple, Dinosaurs and Deep Crow.

With the new ones I made Signets of Patronage for Sharandar, IWD and WoD. I poo-pooed them at first, but they really are worth the 50k AD and a smattering of spare currencies each. For Sharandar double currencies, I will have the 7 Realm of Malabog quests stacked up and get 14 of those damned Iliyanbruen Blades in one go, and I need only 9 for that particular boon rather than 18. Six days farming those just for one Boon was a real bust for me.

    🙂

You can probably just cross off Maze Engine since most of it’s really time-locked.

Icewind Dale is clearly up ahead for me. But that might come down to me not liking the dwarven valley and it’s quests. I tend to knock of a good part of these during double IWD or even with some genies gifts (where did I get these account bound ones anyway?). Then theres only reputation left to do, which goes hand in hand with Underdark progression (and raw black ice, which can’t be refined anymore xD)

I would have voted for Storm King’s Thunder too, but it’s a question of time. In a 2 months long campaign you ain’t going to get far with a single double currency weekend. The token goes a long way though. On a 2 week lomg double currency event I’d go for STK.

River District (Cloaked Ascendancy) is real nice with a token imo, as you make campaign progress like every two days, so you can feel it going forward. Looking back I have to say it is overall one of my preferred campaigns to redo on all characters.

Now Tyranny of Dragons + Tiamat is nice for double event too, but you can get so much currency out of the siege event (including dragon hoard coffers for the Well of Dragons weelky), that I tend to skip most of the quests, other then introductory ones on this.

All other campaings are short enough and not really worth short cutting / doubling up (my opinion). So I’ve done those on at least 10 out of 12 alt. characters.

That’s interesting as IWD is still one of my favourite zones. It reminds me of Skyrim, which I played heavily for about two years. Doing Demons and Safekeeping every day really helps for both Campaigns, especially getting Rep up.

But I started in Mod 2 and remember my Mod 3 Dwarf DO DC being able to Face Tank 2 Rampaging Yetis and 2 Frost Giant Berserkers at the same time. Then Day 1, Mod 6, he got his final piece of Corrupted Black Ice gear and got One-Shotted by a Winter Wolf!

      ONE! WOLF!

He was level 60, the Winter Wolf was level 73! It took months to get him back up to strength. I think that might contribute to my enjoyment of running round in Primal Gear pretending it’s Mod 3 and I am Uber-Bis! LOL! 😀

*But you CAN refine Black Ice still, you just need to go to the forge and you can mass refine all in one go.*

That Dwarf and my Tiefling HB Fury SW are the only two that have the Runeforged Black Ice Pick thingy, but it seems we can’t buy it anymore. It MASSIVELY increases the speed of digging, especially with a True Silvergrip handle.

I bought them in a sale or with coupons, but I would still probably pay 500 Zen for an Account-Wide unlock for my other characters.

      🙂

Oh thanks I didn’t know about that refinement – I had Black Ice Crafting (smithing) at Rank 5 and now it was gone :O.

Yeah personal perception certainly changes what mods one enjoys or tries to avoid. – IWD was rank 3 when I voted now more people have given there opinion and that significantly changed too.
