Players Are Still Able to Access the Winter Festival’s Twilight Tor Map

*** UPDATE *** This will be fixed with patch NW.90.20171107G.11 on PC, and probably on a later date on consoles.

So, uhm, this is an interesting one. It’s an open secret that players that never zoned out of the Twilight Tor map are not automatically expelled, even though the event is long over. The daily quests and mini events are no longer available, but you are able to access all vendors and fish. Since the devs never cared to comment on this one, it’s not known whether it’s intentional or not. It actually would make some sense to preserve the vendors so players are able to spend their remaining currency. However, there’s already the usual “last chance vendor” in Protector’s Enclave. Additionally players are still able to fish on the map, and gather campaign currencies this way. That’s a distinct advantage over toons that zoned out of Twilight Tor anticipating that the map would no longer be available after the event was over.

Bug or Feature?

So while there’s a chance that it’s some kind of feature, it’s probably not. Not commenting on issues usually means that something is going on. Also, why leave the area open, but remove it from the Overworld Map and add another last chance vendor in PE? Last but not least, you would expect that something like this would have been communicated.

Not the First Time This Happened

It’s not the first time players can access Twilight Tor longer than intended by the way. Normally all characters used to be automatically transferred to Protector’s Enclave on the next login after the Festival’s end. While that was initially working correctly last year, it stopped after a couple month. Toons that you hadn’t logged in for a while, and hence never triggered the transfer while it was active, would find themselves on the Winter Event map as well. Just like this year, you could fully use all vendors and fish.

Overall it probably can’t hurt to stay on the map until you’re forced out. It’s a nice looking hub for alts with a mailbox and vendors to sell stuff. Just don’t forget that you can’t zone out manually. Once done, there’s no way to come back.

I have a lot of alts on the map. But I think since the event technically isn’t over yet (vendors in PE and decorations etc…) the boot from the map might happen later.

You can still access a Stronghold map or instanced content like Dungeons and get returned to Twilight Tor as usual. I left my storage alts there and can send them to use the guild bank at mt SH safely.

I think you exaggerate the “distinct advantage”, unless one has huge amounts of time to spend fishing for lights to the exclusion of all other aspects of the game (except daily random dungeon & skirmish). I did a bit of fishing but did not get any lumens and only a few campaign currencies. I don’t see the point of spending the time fishing for currencies when it’s Double Sharandar this week and Double Tyranny/Well of Dragons next week. And we can’t buy IWD Rep, IIRC. Or fish for Stars. And by not leaving the area to see Harper Boward etc, I’d miss out on the weeklies for AD and currencies.

I know a guy who says he had a minor Alt there for a full year, trying to get all the mounts and companions. He stopped playing for a few months and when he came back his Alt was still there. I think the only way to get Black Lead Flakes for the Demon Sled is fishing for Lights of Simril and buying 8 at a time, and I don’t have time for that, nor do I need or want the mount. It’s a pleasant zone, and I like the music, but the only interest I have now is trying to fly across the ice to the secret area. I’ve only managed to get about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way before landing on the ice.

I have enough Stars left over on most characters to buy the Ice Throne and the Epic Royal Sled, but the throne is really ugly and the epic Sled has only 2 Insignia slots and a sub-par bonus. Great for newer players with no 110% mount, though. But not as good as the Siegebreaker Griffon.

So I’ll save the Stars to get a head start on the Gift Giving next year and open Bags before Parcels. Hopefully, if I get a good drop from the Parcels, it won’t be BoP. Although, a blue mount and a Staldorf from Parcels were mysteriously BoP this year. That was a pain as I wanted the Staldorf on a different character to go with the Intellect Devourer.

It’s minor yes. Our remarks were more meant to point out why it’s probably unintended. And players gaining any advantage is always a strong indicator.

Oh, yes, anything of even the slightest advantage to players is definitely an unintended bug.

I go fishing….trade fish for stars…trade stars for rp coffer….open coffer to get lumen….gain unlimited rp for free…this is an advantage worth millions of ad…
