Xbox Community Rages Over Trade Bar Store Misinformation

Well, well, well, what can you say. Maybe the devs think that all good things come in threes as they produced the third communication hiccup and piece of misinformation in under two weeks.

One of the more anticipated features of Neverwinter Underdark, that launched today on the Xbox, was the reworked Trade Bar Store that comes with severely reduced prices of many items. It unfortunately turned out that the Blood Ruby, Coalescent Ward and Preservation Ward had been reduced to not existent, which wasn’t exactly communicated with the community. The outcry was unsurprisingly big, because instead of making Wards even more available, they can now effectively only be obtained by ZEN directly (they drop from a few other places with about the same chance as winning the lottery). And unlike on the PC version, Rubys have been a viable source of RP on Xbox.

The corresponding thread on the official PWE subreddit has 290 comments and counting (is this some sort of a record?!), the official announcement thread from strumslinger on the arcgames forum exploded equally fast.

The devs responded with quickly editing the original blog post about the Improved Trade Bar Store by appending a little note that it’s a copied PC blog post and things might vary on Xbox. Yeah… Google’s cache has the original post without the appendix.

They did however also follow up in the thread and with a tweet that they are currently discussing the situation, so there’s still hope. Even if this indeed makes sense within the Xbox economy, which has a weaker ZAX and less overall botting, it’s yet another erroneous blog post that got through without somebody realizing the error.

First the Challenge of the Gods Event featured a vague tooltip, then the devs weren’t clear about the fact that the new M9 dungeons won’t come with epic versions and now this. Also looks like copying blog posts is still an issue, right?

Seriously, this has to stop.

Most of hardcore players was selling his rank 12 and trans fey/vopal/negation, betting next update the price of this items gonna fall, not just for blood Ruby but for coalescent and rank 7 enchants.
they thought that will be easy to refine from low ranks, like put an azure rank 7 to 12 with few trade bars.
everybody is really upset, people sell his enchantments for half of original price.

This wasn’t a “communications” issue, this was a deliberate misleading of the community over a period of months to entice people to buy more keys, so they could get trade bars, so they could buy wards.

Users rightfully feel scammed, but our interpretation of this issue is indeed that those writing the blogs (PWE) were not properly informed by those making the game (Cryptic).

Not buying that… this is the same scam they pulled on the PC guys with the “account bound companions” zen promo. They had a freaking TWITCH stream going on during maintenance and didn’t bother to mention it. Sometime after Feb 4th, they updated the original blog to say “platform dependent” and didn’t bother to tell anyone. The had a blog post saying, “we know you’re all afraid that we’re going to remove coal wards, but don’t worry, we’re not, and we’re going to make things better for you.” They’ve been saying for months that “we want PC and xbox experiences to be identical.” And, of course, they had a sale on keys this weekend so everyone could get those extra trade bars.

I don’t see how anyone can take these facts and come to the conclusion that the community was not intentionally misled, rather than that this was all some kind of miscommunication.

It’s cryptic, people shouldn’t try to predict the market because you will get burned. People watch the forums, they check out preview and make financial decisions. Sometimes you win big, sometimes you loose big. On one hand you feel sorry for those who sold their enchants expecting a bring price drop, on the other they sold those enchants hoping to push those loses off on other players. I don’t forse anyone have sympathy on that

Cryptic is waaaaay too irresponsible with the misinformation given to paying players. And their response is invariably “get over it, we might fix it later”. No business model (f2p, f2w, p2p, etc.) can survive with that kind of attitude.

that is the way the game works for the small amount of people still being exploited on champions online, another cryptic game. so it is no surprise, if they think they have to leverage they would make it even harder to get wards. in champions online, for example, a rank 10 core[the equivalent of a rank10 enchantment on the old enchantment system] is EXTREMELY expensive and can only be obtained by fusion using the zen store “wards”.

so yeah, cryptic thinks the game is doing well enough to exploit the playerbase on the xbone and that’s what happened. it may change but they will surely find another way.
