PC Hide the Reticle?

What does not belong in any other section does probably belong here.

Hide the Reticle?

Post by Mr.Linux » Wed Jun 06, 2018 00:46

Anyone aware of an in-game method for removing a stupid feature that only belongs in a first person shooter?

I mean what is the point of cross hairs in a game using a sword? I might understand a control wizard, however since I cannot miss my target apparently... why do we need it there? In Star Trek (the same engine) you can optionally toggle the reticle for the game. You even have a key for drawing and holstering your weapon. How did Neverwinter get this simple concept so wrong?

I did a dozen or more searches. I might have to look at the keybinds for this game and compare them to Star Trek. I know one thing for certain, the control of actions is far better on Star Trek. I can even order my men to attack or defend a given area but this companion runs off looking for more stuff to kill while I am trying to heal up. The more I play this, the more annoyed I get.

No the loot messages can be hidden. Takes some editing but you can hide most GUI elements by;
  1. /ui_save_file gui.txt
  2. edit the gui.txt with notepad or any text editor
  3. return to the game and /ui_load_file gui.txt
Nothing about the reticle is in there.

Have you looked at console commands (triggered in-game)? I think there's a way to dump it to text from in-game too using /cmdlist...
https://neverwinter.gamepedia.com/Console_command

Looks like there is something called /SetHudShowReticlesAs

Also /gensendmessage has a bunch of params it accepts, so you can hunt and peck by way of auto-populate.
Haven't tried anything yet, but can poke around tonight as well.

I guess I should have listed the "stuff" I already tried... lol

/SetHudShowReticlesAs [System Notify] Unknown command "SetHudShowReticlesAs".
Also found this in the gui.txt file;
bshowmouselookreticle 1 (tried zero and reloaded) still no dice.
Also tried;
/genRemoveModal Reticle
Also messed with GenSetValue <string> <string> <float> <string>
A float value is any real number with fractions (3.14), integers must be whole numbers (1, 2, 3 etc..).
Reticle will pop up as an option on many of these but there appears to be no setting to hide it or turn it off.

ouch, thanks for this!

[UPD]
I found ui_settings.txt in game folder, after pressing "Save UI" button in Settings - Interface Tab

but which parameter is responsible for displaying messages from the administrator?
And maybe it can hide this messages from chat?
