We’re not sure how satisfied you are with the new lockbox structural changes that were introduced with the PC launch of Module 15, but this one won’t likely please you at all. In our initial report of the changes we theorized whether players now had to stash lockboxes instead of drops to profit from Double Events. Turns out they don’t, because the new lockboxes aren’t supposed to benefit from bonus events at all. As confirmed by Designer NoWorries on the official Subreddit:
First of all, that doesn’t look great. That is, unless the drop changes have been tweaked to match rewards that players were making with Double Events and old lockboxes. We know Rainer has run his patented RNG test already and is probably pretty close of releasing it. So we’ll know before too long, but currently this certainly feels like a nerf.
Devs Not Comfortable with Players Stocking up Boxes
The devs have said in the past that they don’t feel comfortable that players stock up certain boxes only to open them during Double Events. The new Refining system for example was specifically designed to get rid of x2 Refining events. Now it seems they’re slowly adjusting other areas as well. It’s certainly good that players can open lockboxes whenever without the feeling of “losing out”. On the other hand x2 events offered a reliable way of turning patience into more rewards. While not perfect, it was a decent way to reward players that put in the effort of utilizing Double Events.
Also this being announced casually and not on the official blog creates the impression that the devs wanted to avoid bad publicity here. These type of “oversights” are way to common in this game to call it coincidence.
