Neverwinter Playstation Release FAQ: Crafting and Housing

The Neverwinter Playstation release is right around the corner and many new players are probably asking themselves whether it’s worth to give the game a look. It’s completely free, so the risks are low. Some players however like to know what they can expect down the road and for those we are going to answer a few essential questions in the coming weeks.

Neverwinter Playstation Release Date

In this edition of our Playstation Release FAQ we are going to cover two basic elements of most MMOs: Crafting and Housing. Both can add a lot of creativity and identity to the game. So how does Neverwinter handle both areas?

No Housing

Neverwinter features no real housing mechanic. Guilds can progress Strongholds together, but the customization is limited to the choice where to put buildings on the map. Strongholds do show visible growth when they level up however. The devs said housing is something they’d like to do at some point, but currently it’s not implemented.

Crafting is limited

The game does have a professions system though, but its limited as well. Professions offer no exploration element or fancy recipe mechanic. Neither do they present an alternative path to anything. You won’t go out in the open world and farm resources all day or work hard for the ingredients to a special crafting recipe.

This makes the whole system rather uninspired. The ability to profit from normal professions is limited and you can’t craft level-appropriate gear while leveling as well. Players simply outlevel professions right from the start, hence the gear they can produce will always be too low. You could craft stuff for alternative characters, but just grabbing what the mobs give you is completely sufficient and more convenient.

Masterwork Professions

There is a professions “endgame” called Masterwork, which can produce coveted items and generate ingame wealth. Unfortunately this is limited to a few players that are willing to invest a huge amount of time or currency.

There’s no doubt Neverwinter could make more out of its crafting system. Professions are no independent system that you explore alongside the game, but a complementary piece of the overall grind.

That’s it for today folks! In future posts we are going to deal with more topics, so stay tuned. In the meantime make sure to share questions and remarks below or visit the corresponding thread on our message board.
