Unblogged Wisdom Check: Do You Mind Giving Away Personal Data for Giveaways?
Giveaway are generally a decent win-win for both the sites that run them and the players. You obviously have a chance at a free a promo item while companies create extra hype or attention for their platform or titles. Neverwinter for example usually runs their giveaways through partner sites (bigger MMO news outlets) during module launches to be “in the news”. Most formats require participants to at least use a valid e-mail to be able to contact winners, but other include social interaction. Sometimes you also have to link accounts (Twitch / Steam) to third-party sites. This obviously comes with privacy concerns that may be an issue for certain individuals. If you absolutely don’t want to expose any data, you might simply see yourself excluded from some common giveaways out there.
Which is why we want to know from you in this week’s poll how much you mind giving away personal data to grab free items from Neverwinter? Should third party sites be allowed to use codes and items to collect data from players? Or should free items truly be free?
Share your thoughts and experience by taking part in the poll. You can also voice your opinion on our social channels, in the comments below, or on our message board! Additionally, here are the results of last week’s poll, in which we inquired about your current RAD income compared to Module 14.
Neverwinter UN:Blogged is always looking for writers to contribute to the blog. If you are an active player and search for a way to spread your opinions, analysis, diaries or reviews to more than 75,000 regular visitors, then don’t hesitate and get in touch with us on our contact page or message board! We are currently especially looking for console and PVP content, but that’s not exclusive. There is no frequency requirement, you post how often you want.

Very few giveaways, if any, for UK/EU PS4 so never have to worry too be honest.
Do not participate in free give aways, especially at the expense of giving up personal data. Bombarded now worth too much junk mail and spam.
I view it as a sales pitch honestly… I assume they will sell my personal info and have it added to a ton of mailing lists far before a “remove me from this list” request gets processes (read that as you’ll always be on more lists than you get removed from). So it better be something pretty damn shiny they are gonna give me in exchange for that. It’s certainly not “free”
